Carlyle was released by the Mets on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The Mets released the 38-year-old with over a week remaining before Opening Day so that he would have a chance to catch on with another team, but even if that happens, he'll likely occupy a low-leverage role in a mediocre bullpen.

Carlyle (hip) signed a minor league contract with the Mets on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old Carlyle pitched in just 11 games last season due to multiple injuries, and he'll now have to earn a spot back on the Mets 25-man roster in Spring training. The veteran pitched well for the Mets over 27 games in 2015, but posted a 5.63 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with the club last season.

Carlyle underwent surgery and will likely miss the rest of the season, Adam Rubin of ESPN.com reports. Carlyle was placed on the 60-day DL last Tuesday. Although he is eligible to return after the All-Star break, this report makes it seem like it will be a while before he gets a chance to return.

Carlyle was transferred to the 60-day DL on Tuesday. This move was simply to open up a spot on the 40-man roster, and it does not change Carlyle's expected return date. When he was placed on the DL earlier this year for lower-back stiffness it was backdated to May 12, so he will be eligible to return after the All-Star break.

Carlyle is still having issues with his hip area, as he is dealing with discomfort with his back and hamstring, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports. Carlyle has been sidelined since May 12 and appears no closer to returning to action.

Carlyle's activity remains limited as he attempts to return from lower-back stiffness, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports. Carlyle has yet to resume throwing since suffering the injury May 12, which suggests the Mets are likely viewing him as out indefinitely at this point. The 37-year-old had compiled a 5.63 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 11 appearances prior to landing on the DL.

Carlyle (back) was placed on the 15-day DL on Thursday, retroactive to May 12. Manager Terry Collins had suggested a stint on the DL was likely for Carlyle, who came down with a bout of lower-back stiffness after his outing Monday. Carlyle will be eligible for activation May 27, but his progress in the days and weeks ahead will ultimately determine his return date. Jack Leathersich was recalled to take Carlyle's spot in the Mets' bullpen.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday that Carlyle (back) will "most likely" land on the DL, Mike Vorkunov of the Star-Ledger reports. Carlyle has been battling some lower-back stiffness in recent days, and it seems he's not responding much to treatment as the right-hander appears destined to spend at least a couple weeks on the DL. While Carlyle has given up five runs in eight innings so far this season, he's been hurt by a .320 opponents' BABIP and 44.4% strand rate.

Carlyle (back) will not be available out of the Mets' bullpen Tuesday, Mike Vorkunov of The Star-Ledger reports. Carlyle will get Tuesday off to rest his sore back and will be reevaluated Wednesday. There is a chance he could land on the disabled list if it turns out he will miss more than just a few games.

Carlyle is dealing with lower-back stiffness and should be considered day-to-day, Mike Vorkunov of The Star-Ledger reports. The severity of Carlyle's stiffness is unknown but he may be given Tuesday off to rest so his lower back issue doesn't grow into a bigger problem. His status should be updated ahead of Tuesday's game against the Cubs after he's evaluated by the medical staff.
