Brandon League blew his second save of the season Monday, coughing up the lead in the 11th against the Rays before allowing the winning run in the 12th. It's a rough showing from League, who has been one of the best fantasy closers to this point in the season. He's now 7-for-9 in save opportunities, and his ERA went from 1.54 to 2.77. We still like him to be a fine fantasy option, as long as he isn't traded to a contender to be a setup man.

After Felix Hernandez went eight scoreless innings, Brandon League took a blown save and a loss Thursday, giving up two runs to the Indians in the ninth. League had walked just one over seven scoreless innings to start the season, but he issued two tonight and the Indians made him pay for them with a couple of singles. It was League's first blown save since last Aug. 23, also against Cleveland. In fact, three of his six blown saves since the beginning of 2011 have come versus the Indians.

Brandon League picked up his second save of the season in Saturday's 8-7 defeat of the A's. League earned his first save when the Mariners were in Japan for a two-game season-opening set. The right-hander hasn't allowed a run in three innings this year.

The Mariners and RHP Brandon League avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5 million contract. The Mariners might still be shopping League, but they've agreed to a salary for 2012 anyway to avoid the complications of an arbitration hearing. He posted a 2.79 ERA and 45/10 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings last season.

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Mariners are close to a trade for a "young impact hitter." No word on which team they are talking to, but Crasnick was told that it is a "significant trade" and that closer Brandon League is not part of the return package. The Mariners finished dead last in the majors last season with 556 runs scored and haven't made any major additions to their offense this winter.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com writes that "a number of teams" have called the Mariners to express interest in closer Brandon League. The Reds, Red Sox and Angels are interested in acquiring a closer, but it's not known whether any of them have had serious talks with the Mariners about League. The Dodgers inquired during the winter meetings, but their interest isn't believed to be serious. League, 28, earned $2.5 million this past season while posting a 2.79 ERA, 37 saves and a 45/10 K/BB ratio over 61 1/3 innings. He is set to become a free agent next offseason, so even if the Mariners don't trade him right now, he will likely end up on the block eventually.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Angels have trade interest in the Mariners' Brandon League. League, 28, posted a stellar 2.79 ERA and 45/10 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings this past season for Seattle. He's due a raise over the $2.5 million he earned via arbitration in 2011, however, so the M's may be looking at this as an opportunity to both dump salary and acquire prospects to bolster their farm system. It doesn't sound like a deal is close.

Brandon League picked up his 35th save of the season despite a shaky ninth inning in Tuesday's victory over the Twins. You can chalk this one up to Minnesota's offensive ineptitude. League entered with a 5-4 lead and promptly loaded the bases with no outs, giving up back-to-back singles and committing a throwing error on Trevor Plouffe's sacrifice bunt. League then struck out Michael Cuddyer and induced a pair of grounders to end the game. The 28-year-old reliever has been dominant for much of this season. He's only allowed four earned runs since May 14, blowing two saves in that span.

Brandon League picked up his 33rd save of the season in Tuesday's victory over the Angels. He tossed a perfect ninth inning. League has been dominant for much of this season. He's only allowed four earned runs since May 14, blowing only two saves in that span. The 28-year-old reliever is making a strong case that he should be the Mariners closer long-term.
