Webster (1-1) was a mess Thursday, walking five batters to go with five hits and six runs over 5.1 innings in a loss to the Angels. After he was surprisingly effective in his D-Backs debut over the weekend, this was more in line with what we expected to see from Webster. The 25-year-old righty has now walked eight while striking out just six over his 11 innings with Arizona. Combine that with his 9.00 ERA in Triple-A this year, and he's an unappealing fantasy asset even in NL-only leagues.

Webster struck out two and walked three while giving up two runs on two hits over 5.2 innings in a winning effort against the Giants on Saturday. Considering the recent production of the Giants' offense, it was an impressive season debut for Webster. The D-backs will continue to use him in their rotation after demoting Josh Collmenter to the bullpen, but Webster's lack of consistency during previous stints in the big leagues makes him better suited for careful streaming at the present time. Webster will face the Angels at home Thursday in his next scheduled start.

Webster will be called up and start for the Diamondbacks on Saturday, Zach Buchanan of The Arizona Republic reports. Webster will be taking the rotation spot of the home run-plagued Josh Collmenter. Though Webster's results have not been close to ideal in Triple-A with a 9.00 ERA, there's still no way to be sure he hasn't been feeling shoulder fatigue. The move from Reno to Arizona might actually beneficial to his numbers. He's still an incredibly risky start though, as his major league numbers have been pretty bad (5.03 ERA, 4.35 FIP, 1.458 WHIP).

Webster (shoulder) made his third appearance Saturday since returning from the DL, allowing six runs over five innings on nine hits and three walks, striking out four. Webster's first two starts since returning were much better, however. He had allowed just two runs over 11 innings, with a 15:4 K:BB. For the season his line is still pretty ugly, with a 9.00 ERA and 24:12 K:BB, though he's allowed just one homer over 23 innings. Given that he was dealing with shoulder fatigue and toils for Reno, an extremely hitter friendly ballpark, his numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

Webster was placed on Triple-A Reno's 7-day disabled list Monday due to shoulder fatigue, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Webster is expected to be shut down for at least a couple of starts, further delaying any opportunity to earn his way to the Diamondbacks' rotation. Likely as a result of the shoulder soreness, Webster was lit up in his first two starts with Reno, surrendering 15 runs on 17 hits and five walks over seven innings. The organization will hope that some extended time off will resolve the issue.

Webster was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Webster struggled his way through his final spring training outing last Thursday, allowing two earned runs in 1.2 innings. He finished spring training with a 8.18 ERA and 2.09 WHIP with just six strikeouts in 11 innings, and will now begin the season at Triple-A. He remains one of top candidates for a rotation spot, however, if one of the current members were to go down with an injury.

Webster, who was ejected from his start Monday after beaning Justin Turner, remains in the mix for one of the final spots in the Arizona rotation to begin the season. Josh Collmenter, Jeremy Hellickson, and Rubby De La Rosa have been confirmed as members of the rotation, while Chase Anderson is believed to be a part of the group as well. If Anderson's role is confirmed (he's likely the No. 3 starter), Webster, Trevor Cahill, Daniel Hudson, and Robbie Ray appear to be the final candidates for the fifth starter role. Prior to his ejection Monday, Webster allowed two runs on three hits while recording just three outs, lifting his spring ERA to 7.71 over a meager 9.1-innings sample size. Still, he's allowed eight runs on 16 hits -- including two homers, while carrying a mere 6:3 K:BB thus far. Given his performance, and perhaps more importantly, the team's financial investment in Cahill, Webster may be forced to open the season at Triple-A. A decision will likely come down in the final days of spring training.

Webster is not a lock for the Diamondbacks' rotation to begin the season, but he may have a leg up on the open competition for one of the final three spots behind Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson. With increased depth, the Diamondbacks should have plenty of competition for rotation spots throughout the season. Webster pitched well in September for the Red Sox to close out 2014, and he'll need to sustain the improved control he showed down the stretch order to keep a starting gig regardless of when that opportunity is afforded him by his new club.

Webster has been penciled into the Diamondbacks' rotation for 2015, Fox Sports Arizona's Jack Magruder reports. General manager Dave Stewart named Webster, along with Josh Collmenter, Jeremy Hellickson and Ruby De La Rosa as four pitchers that would be assured a spot in the rotation as things currently stand. This is a major boost for Webster's offseason value, as his role for 2015 with Arizona was not this clear after he was traded to from Boston earlier in the week. He posted a 5.03 ERA (4.35 FIP) in 11 starts for the Red Sox last season, but he won't turn 25 until February and still projects as a solid No. 4 starter if everything comes together.

Webster was traded to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday along with Rubby De La Rosa and a minor league prospect in exchange for Wade Miley, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports. Webster's overall numbers from last season aren't appealing at first glance, but he gave up just seven runs in 24 innings over four September starts, and was one of the Red Sox's better prospects. He will likely get a chance to compete for a spot in the Diamondbacks' rotation during spring training.
