Unfortunately, the homer off D-Backs closer Brad Ziegler only cut one run off a 9-7 lead, so it wasn't enough for a comeback. Nonetheless, after undergoing a rapid cooling phase, Pierzynski has bounced back a bit, with a four-game hitting streak -- two of those being pinch hits.

Pierzynski will be held out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants. Manager Fredi Gonzalez elected to give Christian Bethancourt a second consecutive start, but with the young catcher still hitting below the Mendoza Line for the season, Pierzynski should continue to see the larger portion of the timeshare behind the plate. The 38-year-old isn't nearly the defensive presence that Bethancourt is, but his .255/.299/.396 at least gives the Braves a modicum of offense from the catcher spot.
