With the conclusion of the NFL season quickly approaching and in turn the start of a new league year on Fleaflicker, what will happen to players with an injury status?
Both of my dynasty leagues utilize an IR - one for a "True IR" player status and one for an "Out or Greater" player status. Last year these player statuses lingered throughout the NFL offseason causing some teams to in turn carry extra players/exploit the previous season injury status. Will these statuses be removed when the 2015 season starts? Both leagues are set up so that add/drops cannot be made with invalid rosters, a benefit that I would like to continue in the offseason as well.
My work-around plan is to remove the IR spot until training camp, but I would very much prefer for the injury status to be removed overall since the players will no longer truly have this status. Is this in the plans?
Good question and with dynasty leagues getting more and more popular we're going to have to reevaluate how we determine this on our end. Your inquiry into removing all injury statuses is the most likely until training camps open. Read below for the most details:
It's difficult because players rehab on their own in the offseason and we do not have official injury reports and many times nothing is clear to the public or even the NFL team if the player is not rehabbing on their own.
In our system he's no longer even listed as having an injury because we removed players from the IR: fleaflicker.com -- which should not be.
Here's how it's working now which we will revisit: It's taking Week 17 injuries and any players who have played in the postseason (all players that were not on IR) and using that to determine their status including the updating of players still in playoff games. As of now, these injury statuses stand in the database until the provider we receive injury reports from updates them around late July when training camps open. Hopefully we can change this or at the very least clear injuries so they are not incorrect and then have some of the major players with injuries listed -- like a Carson Palmer.
In the past, It has not even been updated during mini camps in May. However, with OTAs, mini camps and workouts receiving more news than ever regarding injuries (and players playing fantasy all-year around), we are going to internally develop a new protocol for this. It may be wiping all injuries out so players have no statuses until July. However, this doesn't help dynasty leagues that want to IR players like a Tom Savage of the Houston Texans fleaflicker.com or Carson Palmer having nothing.
We'll contact our stats department and our internal team that has last say on this to determine what we're going to do moving forward.and keep you updated. For right now, it is going to stay the same until we could come up with the best and most precise way of doing this.
Just an update, all injury statuses will in fact be cleared when the new season rolls over on 2/10/2015. This will be the protocol we'll be using as determined from the above post.
