Savage was released by the Lions on Saturday, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Savage's release comes as a bit of a surprise, with Detroit ultimately choosing Josh Johnson as the backup quarterback. Savage may see some interest from other teams after he showed an ability to step in and start for the Texans last year.

Savage completed five of nine passes for 157 yards during Thursday's preseason game against the Browns.
EDGE Analysis
Savage evidently cleared concussion protocol sometime within the past couple of weeks and ultimately got the starting nod for Thursday's finale, only to get sacked on Detroit's first offensive snap. It seems he's still considered the No. 2 quarterback behind Stafford despite the missed time.

Head coach Matt Patricia confirmed Saturday that Savage is in concussion protocol, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is presumably the result of one of the sacks Savage took in Thursday's preseason opener. Now dealing with his third concussion in four years, there's no telling how long it could take the quarterback to clear protocol. Detroit signed Josh Johnson earlier Saturday to replenish depth at the position.

Savage completed two of three passes for 40 yards and rushed once for 15 yards during Detroit's preseason opener against the Patriots.
EDGE Analysis
Savage looked sharp and logged roughly 10 snaps before ceding quarterback duties to David Fales, who proceeded to complete under 40 percent of his passes and wasn't impressive in any sense of the word. As long as his health cooperates, Savage shouldn't have a problem holding on to the No. 2 gig behind Matthew Stafford throughout the remainder of the preseason.

Savage is expected to enter the upcoming season as the Lions' No. 2 quarterback, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Savage reportedly operated as the top backup throughout OTAs and minicamp. Connor Cook is no longer in town and only David Fales is around to compete for the No. 2 gig entering training camp. Given Fales' lack of starting experience, Savage seems like Detroit's best option if something were to happen to Matthew Stafford.

Savage signed a contract with the Lions on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Savage spent time with the 49ers and Bengals in 2018, but he hasn't appeared in a game since losing in six of his seven starts for Houston the year prior. He'll compete with Connor Cook for the No. 2 quarterback job unless the Lions bring in a better option before training camp.

Savage was claimed off waivers by the Bengals on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Savage was waived by the 49ers for the third time over the weekend but won't have a chance to re-sign this time with the Bengals in need of a backup quarterback after placing starter Andy Dalton (thumb) on injured reserve. Jeff Driskel will take over as Cincinnati's top quarterback with Savage serving as the No. 2 option. Savage hasn't seen game action since Week 14 of last season with the Texans.

Savage was waived by the 49ers on Friday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Savage's third stint with the 49ers comes to an end as the team promoted running back Jeff Wilson from the practice squad. Savage could rejoin the team again but is unlikely to find himself in a situation to play with Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard both currently healthy.

Savage signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Savage will join the 49ers for his third stint with the club in less than a month after the team opened room for him on the roster by placing Raheem Mostert (forearm) and Emmanuel Moseley (shoulder) on injured reserve. The veteran signal-caller will step in as the No. 3 option on the depth chart behind Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard, in some order.

The 49ers waived Savage on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Savage's second stint of the season with the 49ers lasted only a few days longer than the first, with the 28-year-old sticking on the roster for a week and a half this time around. There appeared to be a chance that Savage would dress as the backup quarterback for the 49ers' Thursday night game against the Raiders, but the team's decision to release him implies some level of optimism that C.J. Beathard (wrist/thumb) will be available for No. 2 duties if unable to start. Nick Mullens is the only healthy signal-caller left on the roster.
