Chiefs signed DT Shaun Smith.
It's an indication Glenn Dorsey (calf) could miss multiple games. Smith failed to make it to final cuts with the Titans despite signing a three-year, $7.25 million deal in 2011. Out of shape, he badly under-performed last season. Smith could immediately join the Chiefs' defensive line rotation.

Titans DT Shaun Smith currently weighs 340 pounds after playing at 362 last season.
"I wasn't happy with my play last season," Smith said. "I was doing a lot of talking, and my play wasn't showing up like it should have been." Due roughly $2 million, Smith also admits to uncertainty over his roster spot. "Am I worried? I'd be lying if I said I'm not worried." Smith notched just 25 tackles and one sack in the first year of a three-year deal last season.

Titans DT Shaun Smith admits to playing out of shape in 2011 after signing a three-year, $7.25 million contract in late July.
"I didn't feel like I played to the ability that I should have," said Smith. "I didn't play at a high level." DC Jerry Gray believes Smith also had trouble adjusting to the Titans 4-3 defense after a history in the 3-4. Smith vows to work harder this offseason to improve his gap penetration.

Titans agreed to terms with DT Shaun Smith, formerly of the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have now lost both their nose tackles this week as Ron Edwards bolted for Carolina a couple days ago. Smith can play some end in a 3-4, but he'll stick to the defensive tackle spot in the Titans' 4-3. If the Titans can keep Smith's attitude in check and his motor running, he'll be a nice rotational piece against the run.

The Chiefs are in the process of negotiating a new contract with free agent DL Shaun Smith.
Smith suddenly became a priority after the Chiefs lost starting nose tackle Ron Edwards to the Panthers. Sixth-round pick Jerrell Powe is the only nose tackle left on the roster, although Smith played left defensive end last season.
