Free agent DT Rocky Bernard is visiting the Lions Wednesday. It's the first known interest in Bernard since the Giants let him walk in free agency. He's 34 now, but could still give the Lions some early-down rotational depth behind starters Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Defensive end Jason Jones is expected to move inside on passing downs.

The Giants are unlikely to re-sign impending free agent DT Rocky Bernard. Bernard was once a strong pass-rushing defensive tackle in his heyday, but that time has passed as Bernard is approaching 34 years old. The Giants already re-signed one 34-year-old in Shaun Rogers on Thursday. Bernard should be able to land a one-year deal somewhere, though.

Giants defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Browns. Bernard will be replaced in the starting lineup by second-year player Marvin Austin. Bernard, 33, has amassed 14 tackles and a sack in the season's first four weeks after re-signing with the Giants in the offseason.

Giants re-signed DT Rocky Bernard. The 32-year-old has little left in the tank, but it doesn't hurt to bring back a veteran in the system when youngsters Linval Joseph and Marvin Austin are slated for such large roles. Bernard has one sack over the past two seasons.

Giants informed DT Rocky Bernard of his release. He was due a $2.95 million base salary. Bernard's body is breaking down at age 32, and the sides couldn't agree to a restructured contract, after all. Perhaps the Rams will show interest. Bernard is familiar with Steve Spagnuolo's defensive terminology, and St. Louis missed out on Barry Cofield Tuesday night.

Giants DT Rocky Bernard has agreed to restructure his contract in order to create cap space for the team. Details of the "modification" are unclear, but he may have dropped his salary to the league minimum. (That's what usually happens.) Bernard was due $2.95 million after playing less than a third of the Giants' 2010 defensive snaps. The 32-year-old finished with 18 tackles and two sacks in 14 appearances.
