ESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker considers free agent Dustin Keller re-signing with Miami "unlikely." Keller's gruesome August knee injury resulted in a torn ACL, MCL, PCL as well as a dislocation. He had to watch as Charles Clay broke out for a 69/759/6 line, grabbing the 2014 starting role in the process. Keller, who will turn 30 years old in September, will have to prove his health before getting a deal in free agency. The injury was severe enough that his Week 1 status remains in doubt.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Insiders that Dustin Keller avoided nerve damage when he tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL and dislocated his right knee in Miami's third preseason game. Per Schefter, Keller's knee "cartilage and nerves are intact," and "doctors believe he will have a chance to resume his NFL career." The catastrophic knee injury may still sap Keller's best assets -- his speed and movement skills. Out for the season, the 29-year-old will hit unrestricted free agency next March.

Dolphins placed TE Dustin Keller on injured reserve with a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL, and dislocated right knee, ending his season. The Fins will move forward with rookie Dion Sims, H-back Charles Clay, and 2012 third-round bust Michael Egnew at tight end. It's a massive dropoff. For Keller, his NFL future is unclear. This is a catastrophic knee injury, and he's not under contract for 2014. It would be an amazing success story if Keller were ready for Week 1 next season, let alone regained fantasy relevance.

Dustin Keller is done for the season after suffering a knee injury in Saturday night's preseason game against the Texans. The exact nature of Keller's injury is unknown at the moment, but he likely tore at least one of the major ligaments in his knee. It's a tough blow for both Keller and the Dolphins. Keller was legitimately excited for a bounce-back season after hamstring issues ruined his 2012 campaign. Signed to a one-year, $4.25 million deal, Keller had plans to rehab his value and land a multi-year contract next March. Instead, he'll have to again settle for a one-year pact.

Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reports Dustin Keller (knee) is "most likely done for the year."

Dolphins TE Dustin Keller was carted off the field during Saturday night's preseason game with a right knee injury. Texans rookie S D.J. Swearinger unloaded on Keller's right knee following a short reception. Keller's knee bent back awkwardly and he was in obvious pain on the ground, cussing before the cart came out. It'll be a shame if Keller's season is over, because he was betting on himself with a one-year contract. Keller had also shown excellent chemistry with Ryan Tannehill in August.

Dustin Keller caught two balls for 46 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' second preseason game at Jacksonville. At least among fantasy-relevant Dolphins players, Keller is leading the team in preseason receiving with three catches for 50 yards and the score. On Friday night, Keller secured a bullet 22-yard score from Ryan Tannehill. While we're not bullish on Keller's fantasy outlook, he could flirt with back-end TE1 value with a realistic chance to lead the Dolphins in receptions.

Dustin Keller said he declined a long-term deal from the Dolphins in favor of a one-year contract. Keller's one-year pact is worth $4.25M. It's unclear how much the Dolphins were offering annually on a long-term deal, but the ex-Jet apparently didn't like it. "My worth wasn't where I think it was at," he said. "So I took a gamble on myself and said I'm better than everyone thinks I am. This is where I want to be longterm. But I want to prove to them I'm better than last year."

Dolphins agreed to terms with TE Dustin Keller, formerly of the Jets, on a one-year contract. The Jets' latest defector will remain in the AFC East. The sides had been near an agreement for 48 hours, but Keller was holding out for a multi-year deal. He didn't get it, and now founds himself a part of a brazenly "all in" squad for 2013. Keller represents a major upgrade for a team that's had trouble getting the tight end position right in recent seasons, but is coming off a down campaign. Thanks to injuries and Mark Sanchez, Keller was limited to 28 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns in eight games in 2012. A chain mover and a red-zone threat when healthy, Keller should find himself on the TE1 radar with Ryan Tannehill.

The Miami Herald's "understanding" is free agent Dustin Keller may turn to the Giants or Bills after talks broke off with the Dolphins. The Dolphins only offered Keller a one-year contract. His agent has also "reached out" to the Broncos. Keller is one-dimensional in that he can stretch the seam, but lacks blocking ability and isn't an ideal mismatch creator at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds. Rob Gronkowski is 6-foot-6. Jimmy Graham is 6-foot-7.
