Mattheus was released from Triple-A Louisville, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mattheus failed to earn a bullpen spot on the Major League roster during camp, and didn't fare much better in the minors, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and four walks during his first seven innings of the year. He'll look to catch on elsewhere on a low-risk deal to provide organizational pitching depth.

Mattheus was one of four relievers sent by the Reds to their minor league camp.
EDGE Analysis
Also sent down were J.C. Ramirez, Pedro Villarreal and Drew Hayes. There's still a battle for at least one bullpen job, but Mattheus probably had the best chance among the four given his previous experience, but wasn't on the 40-man roster.

Mattheus agreed to a minor league contract with the Reds on Friday that includes an invite to spring training, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cincinnati declined to tender Mattheus a contract at the end of the 2015 season, but will welcome the right-hander back on a minors deal with a chance to earn a bullpen spot in the spring. Mattheus does not have the swing-and-miss stuff to replace Aroldis Chapman as the Reds' closer (career 5.3 K/9), but he generates groundballs at a good clip and lowered his walk rate back below 3.0 BB/9 last season.

Mattheus will not be tendered a contract by the Reds, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Reds took a flier on Mattheus after the Angels designated him for assignment in mid-May, but he did not impress the team enough to earn a contract tender heading into his first winter of arbitration eligibility. Another team will likely bring in the right-hander on the cheap, because while he rarely misses bats, Mattheus is able to keep the ball on the ground and he showed improved control in 2015.

Mattheus was awarded the win Monday night despite allowing a run-scoring single to the only batter he faced. He gave up a hit by Kris Bryant, scoring Kyle Schwarber, but Anthony Rizzo was thrown out at third base on the play.
EDGE Analysis
Meanwhile, Shelby Miller has gone 19 starts without a win. Life isn't always fair.

For the second day in a row, Mattheus helped turn a small deficit into a large one, giving up two runs Saturday on three hits and two walks. He also committed a balk. Mattheus was part of a sequence where the Brewers reached based on six consecutive batters. In the last two days, his ERA has climbed from 2.75 to 4.29 and his WHIP from 1.120 to 1.480.

Mattheus was claimed off waivers by the Reds and will join the team Thursday. Presumably, he'll work in middle relief for the Reds and take over the roster spot formerly held by Kevin Gregg.

Mattheus was designated for assignment by the Angels on Tuesday. Mattheus, who was brought up last Friday to provide some short-term bullpen help, was bumped from the 40-man roster in favor of Marc Krauss. If Mattheus passes through waivers unclaimed, he will likely head to Triple-A Salt Lake to serve as organizational depth.

Mattheus was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. The 31-year-old Mattheus made one appearance in his brief stint with the Angels, striking out two batters in a scoreless inning. Even if he makes it back to the majors, he probably won't see much work in high-leverage situations this season.

Mattheus was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. Mattheus has already made seven appearances on the mound for the Angels this season so this promotion is not all that surprising. The 31-year-old is sporting an ERA of 1.04 over 8.2 innings out of the bullpen this year.
