Venable said he is willing to go to Triple-A if he does not earn a roster spot with the Phillies, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Venable is competing for one of two bench spots with Cedric Hunter and Emmanuel Burriss. He has a May 1 opt out in his contract if he is not in the majors by that date.

Venable signed a minor league contract with the Phillies on Monday that includes an invitation to major league spring training, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
After failing to make the Indians 25-man roster, Venable will try again with the rebuilding Phillies. Philadelphia has been marred with outfield injuries this spring, making Venable a nice fit for them. If he makes the Opening Day roster, there's a good chance that he could platoon with Rule 5 pick Tyler Goeddel.

Venable was informed Sunday that he wouldn't make the Indians' 25-man roster and has been granted his release, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
EDGE Analysis
The superior Cactus League performance of Tyler Naquin likely ended Venable's bid for a roster spot, as both players are lefty-hitting center fielders. The 33-year-old Venable could still attract interest as a platoon outfielder for another organization.

Venable signed a minor league deal with the Indians on Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Venable, who finished last season with the Rangers, was thought to be a potential replacement for the injured Josh Hamilton in Texas, but he'll instead head to Cleveland to join GM Mike Chernoff, who was a college teammate at Princeton. The 33-year-old is coming off of a struggle-filled end to 2015, as he hit just .182 with 21 strikeouts in 82 plate appearances for the Rangers across 37 games. Venable put up a .258/.318/.378 slash line in 98 games for the Padres, however, and his career .251 average likely provides him a good chance to crack Cleveland's 25-man, Opening Day roster.

Venable is out of the lineup Thursday against the Cardinals, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Venable will take a seat with the left-handed Tim Cooney on the mound for the Cardinals on Thursday. The Padres will turn to Melvin Upton Jr. in center field and atop the order in his place, but Venable remains the primary center fielder at this point.

Venable is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners. With lefty Mike Montgomery due up for Seattle, Venable will once again sit in favor of Melvin Upton Jr. in center field. Look for Venable and Upton to continue splitting time in center until Wil Myers (wrist) is ready to return, with Venable seeing almost all of the starts against right-handed pitching.

Venable is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Padres broadcaster Bob Scanlan reports. Melvin Upton Jr. will start in center field and bat eighth against lefty Robbie Ray, as interim manager Pat Murphy continues his strict platoon in center field. Venable figures to be in there for the final two games of the series, against right-handers Jeremy Hellickson and Chase Anderson.
