He's expected to serve as the top backup to Justin Bour at first base and may occasionally see time in the corner outfield if either Marcell Ozuna or Giancarlo Stanton require time off. The loss of Jake Esch on waivers to the Padres also creates a vacancy on the 40-man roster, which would be the final hurdle to Moore breaking camp with the big club. The former National would primarily be used as a pinch-hitter, but he could see occasional starts at first base against tough left-handers if he does win the job.

Moore got the start in left field in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins, going 2-for-2 with a two-run home run.

It's his second home run of the spring already, as the former National tries to win a spot on the Marlins' bench. He's got an uphill battle, as the team will most likely carry eight relievers and try to make do without a platoon partner for Justin Bour at first base, but a big performance from Moore in camp could at least put him in line for a call-up during the season if that plan changes.

Moore was placed on the minor league DL this week with an undisclosed injury.

The 29-year-old had 21 strikeouts in 62 at-bats for Triple-A Gwinnett before landing on the DL. While the Braves could summon him as a bench bat later this season, he won't bring much to the table from a fantasy standpoint.

The Braves acquired Moore from the Nationals in exchange for Nate Freiman on Sunday.

Moore has received 601 at-bats with the Nationals over the past four seasons, putting together a .228/.281/.401 line, 24 homers, 91 RBI, 58 runs, and a 40:178 BB:K. Falling short of that standard this spring with a .129/.206/.355 batting line in 31 at-bats, he'll likely begin the season as organizational depth in the corner outfield and at first base with Triple-A Gwinnett.

Moore was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

He'll head to Syracuse to get more reps after putting together a poor showing with the Nationals this spring. The 29-year-old infielder had a career-high 187 at-bats last season and hit a career-low .203 to go with a .250 OBP.
