May announced Monday during a stream on his personal Twitch account that he has retired from professional baseball, SNY.tv reports.
EDGE Analysis
May, who turned 34 years old in September, still appeared to have something left in the tank after recording 21 saves while pitching to a 3.28 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 46.2 innings with Oakland in 2023, but he'll choose to walk away from the game rather than pursuing a short-term deal with the Athletics or another club in free agency. Over parts of nine seasons in the majors with the Twins, Mets and Athletics, May notched 36 wins, 33 saves and 67 holds and accrued a 4.24 ERA across 450.1 career innings.

May picked up the save Thursday against Minnesota, striking out one over a perfect inning.
EDGE Analysis
May was called upon in the bottom of the ninth to protect a one-run lead and didn't disappoint, retiring the side in order to record his 21st save of the season. The right-handed reliever has now converted his last 11 save opportunities and hasn't allowed a run since Aug. 13. Thursday also marked his fifth appearance this month in which he didn't allow any hits.

May recorded his 20th save in the Athletics' win over the Tigers on Saturday, allowing a hit and a walk over 1.1 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
May turned in another impressive late-game performance while generating his 13th straight scoreless outing overall. The veteran right-hander's multi-inning appearance was his first such outing since Aug. 5, when he'd earned a win while logging 1.2 frames against the Giants. May has registered a save in eight of his last 11 trips to the mound as well and has worked his ERA down to 3.43 with his current strong stretch of pitching, his lowest figure in that category since after his first appearance of the season back on April 4.

May allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned a save over the Rangers on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
May coughed up a two-out single but still slammed the door to finish the 6-3 win. He's riding an 8.1-inning scoreless streak, lowering his season ERA to 3.79 through 40.1 frames. May has converted 19 of his 22 save opportunities this year, including nine straight.

May recorded his 18th save in the Athletics' win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing one hit during a scoreless ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
May made relatively quick work of the pinch-hitting Spencer Horwitz and Daulton Varsho after allowing a leadoff single to Santiago Espinal, throwing 11 of his 15 pitches for strikes along the way. The veteran right-hander has a win and six saves in his last seven appearances, and he's lowered his ERA from 4.78 to 3.89 since an Aug. 13 stumble against the Nationals when he allowed five runs (three earned) over just two-thirds of an inning.

May struck out the only batter he faced and earned a save against the Angels on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Kirby Snead was originally called upon to finish the game for Oakland but struggled in the ninth inning. May came in to clean up the mess and struck out Mike Moustakas on three pitches to end the 10-6 victory. May has allowed three earned runs over his last 15 appearances, all coming during an ugly outing Aug. 13 against Washington. He's lowered his season ERA from 5.32 to 3.99 during that stretch and has now converted 17 of his 20 save opportunities.

May picked up the save Saturday against the Angels, allowing two walks over a scoreless inning.
EDGE Analysis
May entered the game with a 2-1 lead in the ninth and proceeded to walk the first batter he faced on five pitches. However, the right-handed reliever was able to retire the next two batters before intentionally walking Shohei Ohtani and eventually getting out of the jam to record his 16th save of the season. May has converted each of his last six save opportunities and has not allowed an earned run since Aug. 13, lowering his season ERA to 4.03.

May allowed two hits and struck out three over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
May has kept a scoreless outing in 12 of his last 14 appearances, including each of his last five. Tuesday's effort was a bit of a shaky one, but he was able to strike out Eugenio Suarez with runners on second and third to escape a jam. May is now 15-for-18 in save chances this season while posting a 4.14 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:26 K:BB over 37 innings.

May earned a save against the White Sox on Thursday, allowing one hit in a scoreless inning.
EDGE Analysis
May had a three-run lead to work with in the bottom of the ninth inning and made quick work of Chicago, needing just nine pitches to get three outs around a single. The save was the second in three days for the right-hander, pushing his total to 14 on the campaign. He had tallied 12 saves over eight big-league seasons prior to this year.

May struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
May threw 14 pitches (eight strikes) to submit his second straight clean inning against the Royals. He's pitched three of the last four days, so it's possible he may not be available to close if Wednesday's day game presents a save opportunity. May is at a 4.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 29:26 K:BB with 13 saves in 16 chances over 35 innings this season. Lucas Erceg would be the most likely candidate to collect a save chance if May is resting Wednesday.
