Hudson (shoulder) threw three simulated innings on the bullpen mound Friday, CSN Bay Area reports. The right-hander impressed manager Bruce Bochy, who said Hudson "looked really good" during his time on the mound. Hudson appears to have a chance to return shortly after the All-Star break in light of his progress, but the team has no immediate plans to send him on a minor league rehab assignment.

Hudson, who is away from the team for personal reasons, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a shoulder strain. Hudson has reportedly dealt with some added soreness throughout the season, and with Jake Peavy (back) coming off the disabled list, the Giants need to boot someone from the rotation. This move has been discussed for at least the couple few weeks, and while there's no guarantee Hudson gets his rotation spot back when he's eligible to return, the Giants will probably have need of him again this season. He'll be eligible for reinstatement July 12, but the Giants will presumably wait until the second half of the season.

Hudson will leave the team for roughly one week on Wednesday to deal with a "personal situation," Chris Haft of MLB.com reports. Hudson's temporary departure from the team could lead to him being placed on the bereavement list, although the team has not made an official announcement at this point. The Giants will be losing Tim Lincecum to the disabled list on Thursday to begin with, but will also be getting Matt Cain and Jake Peavy back from the DL in the coming days.

Hudson (5-7) gave up five runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings in an 8-6 loss to the Rockies on Friday. Hudson looked good through five scoreless innings, but was undone in the sixth, allowing a three-run bomb to Nolan Arenado, and things didn't get better from there. There's some talk about Hudson -- who has been experiencing some general soreness -- hitting the DL just to get some rest, and with a performance like this, it may be warranted. The .291 average he's allowed against tells you that he's not fooling anyone, and some time off may be just what the crafty veteran needs.

Hudson (soreness) has been confirmed as Friday's starter against the Rockies. The 39-year-old has already shown signs of slowing down, struggling to a 4.24 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB in four June starts, and there has been talk that he could wind up on the DL after Friday's outing. With Jake Peavy (back) expected back after one more rehab start, the Giants can afford to give Hudson some rest.

Hudson figures to make one more start, Friday against the Rockies, before possibly ending up on the disabled list to get some rest, MLB.com's Chris Haft reports. Jake Peavy will need to make one more rehab start, which presumably means Hudson will get one more start with the Giants before heading to the disabled list. It is a home start against the Rockies, so it is not a complete stay away, but the upside is limited due to his lack of bat-missing stuff.
