Federowicz is in the lineup and batting eighth for Tuesday's game against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
David Ross caught Monday's game, and will receive the start Wednesday with Jon Lester on the mound, so the Cubs would like to give him Tuesday off to rest. Federowicz will fill in for the 38-year-old and is 0-for-5 in two games since being called up to replace the injured Miguel Montero.

Federowicz was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move comes in response to Chicago placing Miguel Montero on the 15-day DL on Thursday due to a back issue. David Ross will start in Montero's place Thursday against Milwaukee, but Federowicz and Ross figure to share catching duties going forward, so long as Montero remains out.

Federowicz went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a walk in Triple-A Iowa's 4-3 loss to Round Rock on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Federowicz collected 11 hits in 34 at-bats this spring as well as smacking two homers and producing six RBI and seven runs. The season-ending injury to Kyle Schwarber increases Federowicz's chances of reaching the majors this year but the Cubs still have Miguel Montero and David Ross as potential everyday catchers. Pending an injury to one of those two, the 28-year-old Federowicz will likely remain at Triple-A Iowa during the 2016 season.

Federowicz was invited to the Cubs' major league spring training.
EDGE Analysis
Federowicz isn't expected to be much more than organizational depth after four years of sub-Mendoza Line hitting in Los Angeles. He's likely to spend a few weeks with the top level, then open the season with Triple-A Iowa while Miguel Montero and David Ross occupy catcher in Chicago.

Federowicz underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee Friday, San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Six months after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, Federowicz was forced to go under the knife again, this time to shave down some cartilage that was presenting issues. Federowicz completed a rehab assignment in July but was designated for assignment upon activation from the DL, ultimately finishing with a .179/.229/.346 batting line in 22 games with Triple-A El Paso. He's expected to be ready to go for spring training.

Manager Pat Murphy indicated Sunday that Federowicz (knee) will go through extended drills this week, and could begin a minor league rehab assignment in 10 days, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. Murphy also stated that Federowicz will require "a bunch" of at-bats before rejoining the Padres, meaning he could stay on his rehab assignment for a while. Even when he returns, Derek Norris will maintain the primary duties behind the plate, but Federwoicz should take over the backup spot in place of Austin Hedges.

Federowicz (knee) caught his first bullpen session Friday, and hopes to begin a rehab assignment in late June or early July, Jeff Saunders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. While Federowicz won't be the everyday catcher when he returns, he'll likely slot in behind Derek Norris and receive an occasional start. However, his return date remains unclear, but he's expected to be out through the All-Star break.
