Tolleson (back) was placed on the disabled list Friday with a lower back strain, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Tolleson was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock near the end of July, and will now miss time with a back injury. Throughout the season, Tolleson has pitched 36.1 innings with the Rangers, posting a 7.58 ERA out of the bullpen. The 28-year-old should be able to return before the end of the month barring any setbacks.

Tolleson was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Tolleson has had an awful month of July, allowing 12 earned runs over 8.2 innings (12.46 ERA) and as a result, will head to the Rangers Triple-A affiliate. The right-hander posted sub-three ERA's in 2014 and 2015 so there is optimism that the 28-year-old will return to his old form.

Tolleson (bereavement) was activated prior to Friday's game, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has not pitched in six games as he was attending to a personal matter, but will be available out of the bullpen Friday against the Mariners. Alex Claudio was optioned to Triple-A as a corresponding move.

Tolleson will be activated from the emergency medical leave list Friday, Evan Grant of Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Tolleson is dealing with an illness in the family, and Juckson Profar was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in his place. The Rangers have yet to announce who will be involved in a corresponding move to make room on their roster for Tolleson, who lost his closing role and owns an abysmal 10.13 ERA and 2.00 WHIP.

Tolleson (personal) was placed on the Family Medical Emergency List on Friday, Rangers VP of Communications John Blake reports.
EDGE Analysis
Per MLB rules, Tolleson will miss a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days while he is away from the team to deal with an illness in his family. Juckson Profar was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday and will bat leadoff against the Pirates.

Tolleson has been removed as the Rangers' closer, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After a pair of disastrous outings culminating in giving up a walk-off grand slam to Oakland's Khris Davis, Tolleson has been relieved of his closing duties for the time being. Tolleson has already doubled his blown save total from last season with four blown saves in the first two months of the season. Sullivan notes that this may not be a permanent removal from the closer's role for Tolleson, but rather a move to put him in lower-leverage situations until he can regain his command. Sam Dyson is the likeliest candidate to close for the Rangers in the wake of Tolleson losing the gig.

After having just two last season, Tolleson's blew his fourth save of 2016 against the A's on Tuesday. He gave up a walk-off grand slam to Khris Davis after giving up three hits and walking one while recording just two outs.
EDGE Analysis
Tolleson has allowed seven runs on three home runs in his last two outings. He has a 9.20 ERA on the season and opponents are hitting .343 off him. It was about this time last season that manager Jeff Banister pulled Neftali Feliz out of the closer's role and went with Tolleson. "I definitely have a level of concern," Banister said. "That's one I'm not ready tonight to make a decision on. Obviously his fourth blown save, it's a challenge. We've got to be able to make pitches and end the game ... close the game out after we fought back and took the lead."

Tolleson allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one to blow his third save Saturday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Tolleson was trying to protect a three-run lead, but gave up a pair of homers in a game the Rangers would end up winning in extra innings. He's now allowed runs in three of his last five outings to raise his ERA to 7.07 while his WHIP ballooned to 1.71.

Tolleson threw a clean inning to record his 11th save Tuesday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Tolleson's 5.40 ERA is still carrying the burden of a blown save in his second appearance in which he was charged with five earned runs. Since then, he has allowed just three runs in 12.1 innings (2.19 ERA) with saves in 10 of his 11 opportunities. He has walked just three batters this season and that solid control is one of his best assets.

Tolleson blew his second save of the season, allowing a game-tying homer with no outs in the ninth Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Tolleson was lucky he wasn't tagged with the loss after giving up the homer to start the innings. The right-hander continued the inning, allowing a double and walking two to load the bases. With two out, Jose Bautista stepped to the plate, but Tolleson was able to wiggle out of the jam by getting Bautista to fly out. Closers are never perfect and this one can be shrugged off as a routine part of the job. Tolleson has allowed a run in only three of his 13 appearances and is nine for 11 in save opportunities.
