Sergio Santos picked up his third blown save of the season on Friday, allowing three runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning against the Pirates. Santos took over with a two-run advantage, and promptly allowed a leadoff single to Neil Walker on his first pitch. After striking out Andrew McCutchen, he served up a game-tying two-run homer to Pedro Alvarez. After inducing a fly out from Ike Davis, Starling Marte knocked one over the boards to deliver the Pirates a walkoff victory. It would be shocking to see Santos receive another save chance.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said closer Sergio Santos is unavailable for Saturday's game against the Indians. After working on back-to-back nights, Santos will get a day to rest with Aaron Loup getting the call if a save opportunity were to present itself.

Sergio Santos survived a shaky ninth inning to convert his fifth save of the season Friday night against the Indians. Coming off one of the worst outings you could ever imagine Thursday against the Twins, Santos entered the bottom of the ninth inning Friday with a one-run lead. He allowed a leadoff double to Lonnie Chisenhall before striking out Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher. However, he then issued consecutive walks to Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana to load the bases. As opposed to Thursday night, he didn't implode this time, as he got Michael Brantley to ground out to first base to end it. It wasn't pretty, but it qualifies as a bounce-back outing. With Casey Janssen's setback, Santos should continue to get save chances for Toronto in the short-term.

Sergio Santos completely lost the strike zone after taking over in the eighth inning on Thursday, walking all three Twins he faced and taking his first blown save. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays had already ran through all of their decent bullpen options when Santos imploded. As a result, J.A. Happ was brought in to try to stop the bleeding, yet he only made it worse, walking three batters of his own in what ended up being a six-run inning. Santos, for his part, never walked in a run. Instead, he threw three run-scoring wild pitches, which is a pretty amazing feat. Just four of his 16 pitches were strikes. Santos entered the game 4-for-4 in save chances and with three walks on the season, none in his last three appearances. Hopefully, this was just one big fluke. If not, then the Blue Jays will be forced to go to Steve Delabar and Aaron Loup in save chance.

Sergio Santos pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Orioles on Friday for his fourth save of the season. He struck out two batters in the inning. Casey Janssen (abdomen) is inching closer to a return, but Santos has been pretty impressive early on and might have a chance to keep the closer gig, at least in the short-term.

Sergio Santos picked up his third save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Astros. Santos worked a perfect ninth, striking out the side in the process. The right-hander is now up to eight strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. If Santos can tame his early control problems, he should be an adequate replacement for Casey Janssen.

Sergio Santos wasn't sharp on Tuesday, struggling to close out the Blue Jays' 4-2 victory over the Rays. Santos allowed one run on two hits and a walk, but was able to narrowly avoid trouble with the tying run on second base and end the game. Santos, recently named the closer with Casey Janssen ailing, did strike out three in the effort. Walks weren't much of an issue for him last season, as he finished with a 7/1 K/BB ratio and a 1.75 ERA, so one shaky outing shouldn't change his outlook.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed Sunday that Sergio Santos will serve as the team's closer while Casey Janssen is sidelined. Fantasy owners who came up short on saves during drafts should rush to the waiver wire or rev up those FAAB engines, as Santos has the ability and opportunity to run away with this job. He posted a 1.75 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 28/4 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings with the Jays in 2013.

Sergio Santos pitched a perfect inning Friday in his first Grapefruit League appearance in nine days. It was just his second appearance overall. Santos has been dealing with intestinal problems this spring. If he's put that in the past now, then he might open the season as the Jays' closer with Casey Janssen questionable.

Sergio Santos won't appear in a game for the next four days after battling intestinal issues last week. The illness caused Santos to lose eight pounds, so he needs to work on regaining his strength. The 30-year-old reliever will function as a setup man for the Blue Jays this season.
