Nolin made a three-inning appearance for the Marlins in April but otherwise spent the entire 2023 campaign in the minors. The 33-year-old southpaw compiled a 4.37 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 22.2 innings at Triple-A Jacksonville but didn't make any appearances after the All-Star break due to an unspecified injury.

Nolin was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Thursday.

Miami designated Nolin for assignment Tuesday and he passed through waivers unclaimed. The 33-year-old left-hander owns a career 6.34 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 37:28 K:BB in 61 total innings at the major-league level.

This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Bryan Hoeing, who is joining the Marlins' rotation Tuesday night in Atlanta. Nolin surrendered six earned runs over three innings of relief Monday while making his first appearance in the majors since 2021.

The Marlins selected Nolin's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

After the Marlins acquired him from the Twins earlier this month, Nolin had made just one appearance with his new organization, allowing four runs -- three earned -- over four innings in an April 19 start for Jacksonville. He'll give the bullpen a fresh arm for Monday's series opener in Atlanta, and though the Marlins currently have an opening in the rotation for Tuesday, the veteran left-hander is uncertain to get the start even if he goes unused Monday.

Nolin signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Friday.

Nolin spent 2022 in Korea with the Kia Tigers, putting up a 2.47 ERA in 21 starts. The left-hander got into 10 games with the Nationals in 2021 following a five-year major-league absence.

The 32-year-old's MLB days may be over unless he catches fire in Korea.

Rather than returning Nolin to the rotation once his suspension was completed, Washington elected to keep Josh Rogers in the fold as its fifth starter. Unless the Nationals lose another rotation member over the final two weeks of the season, Nolin looks like he'll work out of the bullpen down the stretch.

Before receiving the ban for intentionally throwing at Freddie Freeman in his Sept. 8 start, Nolin had compiled a 5.60 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 17.2 innings. Those poor numbers make it far from a safe bet that Nolin will take back a rotation spot from Josh Rogers, who gave up two runs on 6.2 innings in his previous start last weekend in Pittsburgh. Rogers will get another starting nod Wednesday, and Nolin will likely be available in bulk relief if needed.

Nolin initially planned to appeal his suspension for intentionally hitting Freddie Freeman on Wednesday, but he'll be unavailable for the next five games after he dropped his appeal. Nolin now tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Marlins on Wednesday.
