Sean Marshall (shoulder) was cleared for a bullpen session Sunday. Marshall threw 25-pitches and didn't report any setbacks. It was his first time throwing off a mound since early July. It's not yet clear if he'll be sent on a rehab assignment, but the Reds are holding out hope he can return this season.

Sean Marshall (shoulder) is slated to increase the distance and intensity of his throwing this week. He's been throwing for a week now and is feeling good. It's not clear when Marshall will throw off a mound, though. "His throwing mechanics look good. He's not having any discomfort in the area of concern," Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said. "We're hoping we can add some aggressiveness to his throwing this week here on the road. This is really a time we have to find if he's healthy enough to be able to help us this year. If not, we'll have to change how we approach his injury."

Sean Marshall (shoulder) played catch Monday. It's a small, but significant step for Marshall, who has been out since May with a shoulder sprain. He's holding out hope to return this season, but the Reds aren't counting on him.

Sean Marshall (shoulder) will resume throwing Monday. Marshall has been out since May and Reds manager Dusty Baker told reporters this week that he's no longer going to put a timetable on the left-hander's return. But there are some signs of progress here in mid-August.

Reds manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday that he's not expecting Sean Marshall (shoulder) back this season. "You can't expect things, that way you're going to be disappointed," Baker said, "and if you get them back, then you're elated." It's far from ruling him out for the season, but Marshall has been shut down since late July after having a setback with his shoulder and it's not clear when he might resume throwing.

Sean Marshall (shoulder) hasn't resumed throwing. Marshall hasn't thrown a pitch for the Reds since May 20 due to a left shoulder sprain and encountered a setback last month. He's currently focusing on strengthening exercises and could resume a throwing program in around 10 days if all goes well. Getting him back in September would probably be a nice surprise for the Reds at this point.

Sean Marshall has been sidetracked in his return from a shoulder injury. The southpaw has been sidelined since late May with a sprained left shoulder and currently resides on the 60-day disabled list. Marshall was set to head out on a rehab assignment after the All-Star break, but he felt pain in his shoulder during a batting practice session. "We don't think it's consistent with his original injury," pitching coach Bryan Price said. "It's more of a tweak. He can't progress if he's feeling soreness. I think he's still strong. Hopefully, he'll be able to start his throwing program soon, so he doesn't fall out of throwing shape."

Reds transferred LHP Sean Marshall from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. It's just a procedural move, as Marshall has already missed nearly 60 days. The lefty is throwing again but it's not clear when he'll try things from a mound.

Sean Marshall (shoulder) is not ready to throw off a mound yet. The left-hander threw from 60-75 feat on Monday and was slated to throw again Tuesday, but he doesn't appear close to trying things off the bump. "He's not ready to get back on the mound, by any stretch of the imagination," Reds athletic trainer Paul Lessard said. Marshall remains out indefinitely.
