The Mets have yet to engage in any extension talks with impending free agent Scott Hairston. The length of the deal remains to be seen, but considering the Mets decided not to trade Hairston at the deadline, there's pressure to get a deal done sooner rather than later. Hairston is making $1.1 million this season and turned 32 in May.

Scott Hairston continued to punish left-handed pitching, smashing three doubles in Friday's loss to the Nationals. Hairston finished the night 3-for-4 and also scored two of the Mets four total runs. The 32-year-old outfielder is enjoying a very productive season, hitting .274 with 14 homers, 44 RBI and seven steals in his 263 at-bats. He's a terrific option in deeper mixed leagues when deployed mainly against southpaws.

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, all signs point to the Mets holding on to Scott Hairston rather than trading him before Tuesday's deadline. It rings true to what the Mets have been saying all along. The 32-year-old Hairston is enjoying one of his finest professional seasons, hitting .264/.303/.537 with 14 homers, 44 RBI and six stolen bases. Though he is eligible for free agency after the season, it appears the Mets would like to retain him rather than sell him off for a marginal return.

Scott Hairston hit a pair of homers Monday to lead the Mets to an 8-7 win over the Giants in 10 innings. Hairston's second homer made it 7-6 in the top of the 10th. Fortunately, the Giants added one more from there thanks to Clay Hensley's brain freeze on a squeeze bunt. They'd need it with Manny Acosta pitching in the bottom of the 10th, as the Giants came back to make it 8-7 and came pretty close to winning it, only to have Brandon Belt's drive to center get caught at the wall to end it. The multi-homer game was the sixth of Hairston's career.

Scott Hairston went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks. Unsurprisingly, both of Hairston's hits came off lefty Joe Saunders. Hairston's southpaw-killing ways appear to have him in high demand ahead of Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline.

The Tigers, reportedly along with the Braves and Giants, have inquired about the availability of Scott Hairston. The Mets aren't against bringing Hairston back, but there's some internal concern he may have played himself out of their price range. Any deal would likely have to return a player they could control next season. However, a team source told ESPN New York's Adam Rubin no trade is imminent. Hairston has a .958 OPS in 120 at-bats against left-handed pitching.

Scott Hairston went 3-for-5 and doubled in two of the Mets' three runs in Thursday's win. With Lucas Duda down, the Mets have Hairston, Jordany Valdespin and Kirk Nieuwenhuis all battling for time in right field. Hairston is probably the best player in that group at the moment, but he still might take a smaller role down the stretch with the Mets on their way to falling out of the race.

Scott Hairston hit his second career grand slam as part of Wednesday's rout of the Cubs. It came off Casey Coleman. Hairston entered the day in a 1-for-18 slump, but he's still having a great year with 10 homers and 31 RBI in 157 at-bats.

Scott Hairston homered for the third straight game in Tuesday's win over the Phillies. Hairston didn't start the game but came off the bench to deliver a two-run shot off the Phillies' Joe Blanton in the sixth. He now has a team-leading six homers for the year to go along with 21 RBI.

Scott Hairston hit for the cycle in a loss to the Rockies on Friday. Hairston singled in the third, hit a solo homer in the fourth, connected for an RBI triple in the fifth and then hit a two-run double in the sixth. It was the first cycle of his career and the 10th cycle in Mets' history. Hairston finished the day 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. He entered Friday's action with a .172 batting average, but the career day has him up to .265 (9-for-34) on the year.
