Scott Downs (shoulder) is likely to be activated from the disabled list by the end of the week. Downs threw a simulated inning Tuesday and appears to be over his shoulder issue. He's not expected to require a rehab assignment, putting him in line to return in a few days.

Scott Downs (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session Tuesday that "may evolve into a simulated game," according to Angels manager Mike Scioscia. Scott Downs (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session Sunday and could be ready in about a week. Angels manager Mike Scioscia told reporters after the workout that Downs will probably be able to skip a minor league rehab assignment. The veteran left-hander has been sidelined since July 31 with a shoulder strain.

Scott Downs (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday. It's a good sign for his recovery, as the Angels have been vague about a timetable for the veteran left-hander. Downs, who has been out since July 27 due to a shoulder strain, should be cleared for a rehab assignment soon if he can get through a couple bullpen sessions without any issues.

Scott Downs (shoulder) threw from a distance of 100 feet Tuesday without incident. It was his second straight day of throwing. Downs is making progress, but there's no clear timetable for his return. "I don't see us going backwards," said Downs. "But there's still a lot of unknowns. I haven't thrown off a mound yet, haven't d one any flat-ground work." The veteran southpaw hasn't pitched since July 27 due to a shoulder strain.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said the team won't know for another week or so how long Scott Downs (shoulder) will be sidelined. He'll be re-evaluated at that time after being placed on the disabled list earlier this week with a strained shoulder. Downs expressed hope when the move was made that he would only miss the minimum time, but clearly an extended absence is possible.

Angels placed LHP Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain. The move was made retroactive to July 28 and Downs is hoping to be ready as soon as he's eligible to return. He has posted a 2.57 ERA over 35 innings this season.

Scott Downs pitched a flawless ninth against the Royals on Monday to pick up his ninth save. Erneso Frieri has recovered well from his first bad outing for the Angels, but Downs is still getting more work in close games lately. This was actually the first save for either since the All-Star break. Downs blew a save and took a loss on July 13. He had given up runs in two of his three appearances in the second half.

Scott Downs notched his seventh save of the season Monday with two perfect innings in a win over the Indians. Downs bailed Jered Weaver out of a jam in the eighth with a double-play ball and a pop out, and manager Mike Scioscia left him in for the ninth with a switch-hitter and a pair of left-handed batters due up. Downs has been simply phenomenal this season, giving up just one earned run over 30 games. He'll continue to share save chance with Ernesto Frieri.
