Scott Diamond has accepted an assignment to Triple-A Rochester. Diamond was designated for assignment by the Twins earlier this week and passed through waivers without being claimed. The 27-year-old will serve as rotation depth in the minors.

"I had started overcomplicating things, putting a lot of pressure on myself," Diamond said. "Just trying to make that perfect pitch every time." Diamond, who went on to post a 2.40 ERA at Triple-A Rochester, is a classic Twins finesse lefty who excelled as a rookie in 2011 using a smoke-and-mirrors approach. He's a long-term back-of-the-rotation starter. The Twins have moved to a six-man rotation to accommodate him and Diamond will start on Thursday against the A's.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire announced that the team will finish the season with a six-man rotation. Scott Diamond is scheduled to rejoin the rotation, while Cole De Vries is bullpen bound. Diamond, recalled from the minors on Sunday night, was dreadful earlier this season in Minnesota's rotation. He went 5-10 with a 5.52 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 45/31 K/BB ratio over 107 2/3 innings.
