Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman (foot) could begin his rehab assignment this weekend, according to manager Dave Martinez. Zimmerman is dealing with plantar fasciitis, but has been increasing his workload this week without any setbacks. He's been banged up this season, but the Nationals are hopeful they can get Zimmerman back by mid-July.

Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman (foot) resumed baseball activities on Monday and will join the team on their road trip this week and resume running. Zimmerman has been out since April 27 and still doesn't have a timetable for his return. He was hitting a measly .213/.302/.373 with three homers and 11 RBI in 75 at-bats before his injury, too, so he belongs on waivers in all mixed leagues at this point. [...]
