Ronny Cedeno, filling in for the injured David Wright, went 3-for-4 with an RBI double against the Nationals on Tuesday. As long as Wright is out, Cedeno stands to see more playing time at the hot corner. He doesn't possess impressive power or speed skills, but does qualify at shortstop and could score some runs hitting near the top of the order.

Ronny Cedeno will be held out for the next couple of days due to tendinitis in his knees. The Mets do not consider it a serious issue. Cedeno signed a one-year, $1.15 million contract in January and is expected to serve as a backup infielder this season.

Mets signed INF Ronny Cedeno to a one-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth $1.15 million and includes some incentives. Cedeno, who turns 29 in February, batted just .257/.306/.351 with two home runs and 31 RBI in 423 plate appearances with the Pirates last season. While he isn't worth monitoring in fantasy leagues, Cedeno is solid with the glove and should be a fine backup for young Ruben Tejada at shortstop and the inexperienced Daniel Murphy at second base.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets have signed infielder Ronny Cedeno to a one-year deal worth about $1.1 million, pending a physical. The Pirates declined Cedeno's $3 million club option for 2012 in late-October after he batted just .257/.306/.351 with two home runs and 31 RBI in 423 plate appearances last season. While he's not much of a hitter, he'll provide a solid glove to back up Ruben Tejada at shortstop and Daniel Murphy at second base.

It confirms an earlier report from a Venezuelan newspaper and provides additional detail by giving the dollar figure. Cedeno has batted just .246/.286/.353 across 701 major league games, but he's regarded as a solid defensive shortstop and also offers some versatility. He would be used in a utility role.

Venezuelan publication Pendulo Latino reports that free agent infielder Ronny Cedeno is close to signing with the Mets. Reports from papers outside the U.S. always been to be taken with a grain of salt, but Cedeno was linked to the Mets last month. The former Pirate holds a woeful career batting line of .246/.286/.353 across 701 major league games, but he's regarded as a solid defensive shortstop and can also fill in at second and third base and even the outfield. He'd likely back up Ruben Tejada at shortstop.
