Erlin (4-7) got the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Erlin allowed a three-run double with two outs in the second inning to opposing pitcher Chris Stratton, but he was able to blank the San Francisco bats the rest of the way. The lefty has made it through six full innings just once all season, and now carries a 4.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 84:12 K:BB across 104 innings. He'll take on the Giants again next time out in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Erlin (3-6) took the loss Saturday against the Reds, allowing seven runs on eight hits across three innings.
EDGE Analysis
Erlin didn't issue a walk or record a strikeout in this one. The southpaw actually retired the Reds in order in the first and third innings, but a seven-run second inning, which was capped by a Joey Votto grand slam, left him with his third straight losing decision. Erlin now has a lackluster 6.09 ERA and 25 strikeouts across seven starts (34 innings) since joining the rotation at the beginning of August. Next up is a home start against the Rangers.

Erlin (3-5) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven across 5.1 innings to take the loss Saturday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Erlin had no trouble getting through three innings, but allowed the first four batters to reach base in the fourth inning to account for three of his earned runs. His last start followed a similar pattern as he had allowed only three baserunners heading into the fifth inning against the Dodgers on Sunday, but went on to surrender four earned runs. That isn't particularly surprising given Erlin's role has been predominantly out of the bullpen this season, though it does call into question his potential effectiveness as a traditional starter, at least for the remainder of this season.

Erlin (3-4) allowed four earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three across 4.2 innings to take the loss Sunday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Erlin had allowed only three baserunners heading into the fifth inning, and retired the first two batters he faced in the frame. However, things unraveled quickly from there as he allowed the next six batters he faced to reach base, with a double and home run allowed to consecutive batters causing most of the damage. His season-long numbers -- Erlin has a 3.69 ERA and 1.07 WHIP -- reflect an effective pitcher, however he has a 6.43 ERA across the seven starts he's received this season.

Erlin will start Wednesday's game against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Though the Padres recently added a pair of prospects to the rotation in Brett Kennedy and Jacob Nix, Erlin won't be exiled to the bullpen just yet with the Friars still down another regular rotation member in Eric Lauer (forearm), who remains on the disabled list. Lauer has resumed throwing off flat ground but has yet to progress to facing hitters, so it looks likely that Erlin will pick up at least another start beyond Wednesday's. In his two outings since rejoining the San Diego rotation, Erlin has covered five frames both times, giving up five runs (three earned) and posting a cumulative 7:2 K:BB.

Erlin surrendered four runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings. He didn't factor into the decision Thursday against Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Erlin gave up a run in the first, followed by three more in the fourth prior to exiting with 85 pitches (57 strikes). The 27-year-old has made just four starts this season, as he's served primarily as a relief pitcher. He sports a 3.36 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 57 strikeouts across 69.2 innings. It's unclear if Erlin will stick in the rotation moving forward, with Eric Lauer (forearm) set to return from the disabled list in the near future, and Jacob Nix receiving a promotion from Triple-A El Paso.

Erlin is expected to toe the rubber for Thursday's tilt against the Cubs, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Erlin will shift roles and become a starter following an injury to Luis Perdomo (shoulder). The duration of Erlin's stay within the starting rotation depends on how he fares against a challenging Cubs' lineup. In two starts this season, he's allowed six runs over 9.2 innings of work.

Erlin allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out four over 4.1 innings of relief work in Wednesday's loss to the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Starter Joey Lucchesi made it through just 1.2 innings and allowed four runs, so Erlin was called upon for mop up duty. The lefty allowed a pair of home runs but did his part to preserve the bullpen with 68 pitches. He's now got a 4.06 ERA and figures to continue serving in a long relief role.

Erlin tossed 5.2 scoreless innings in relief Monday during the Padres' 7-2 loss to the Marlins. He gave up four hits and no walks and struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Erlin has been lit up for 12 runs (11 earned) in seven innings over two spot starts this season, but he has been exceptional when summoned out of the bullpen. Over his 14 relief appearances, Erlin has submitted a 1.57 ERA and 23:2 K:BB over 28.2 innings, production that may make the Padres reluctant to try him out in the rotation in the near future. With three other stretched-out relief options on hand in Matt Strahm, Bryan Mitchell and Phil Hughes, the Padres will have other options to turn to for spot starts should injuries continue to hit the rotation.

Padres manager Andy Green hinted that Erlin will likely head back to the bullpen rather than remain in the rotation if Joey Lucchesi (hip) is unavailable for a second straight start Sunday against the Dodgers, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. "We looked at [Erlin's outing Monday against the Nationals] as a spot start," Green said. "He's done a very good job in the bullpen."
EDGE Analysis
Erlin has failed to go more than four innings in either of his two spot starts this season, with the Nationals lighting him up for six runs on seven hits in Monday's turn. Had Erlin delivered a more credible performance, Green likely would be willing to go back to the lefty for another start over the weekend in Lucchesi's stead, but it appears the Padres will instead tab a minor leaguer for the opening in the pitching schedule. According to Acee, Luis Perdomo might represent the most logical replacement after turning in a 2.81 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 41.2 innings at Triple-A El Paso since his April 19 demotion.
