Brantly could get called up to replace the injured Steve Clevenger as the backup to Chris Iannetta.
EDGE Analysis
Mike Zunino is also a possibility, but the Mariners might not want to interrupt his development plan just to catch a couple games a week in Seattle. The left-handed Brantly is batting .243 with six home runs in 40 games for Triple-A Tacoma. He's a career .225 hitter in the majors in 112 games, the last being a 14-game stint with the White Sox last September.

Brantly cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Brantley was designated for assignment Sunday, and now that he has gone through waivers unclaimed, he'll head to the minor leagues. The catcher hasn't been very impressive at the major league level in his career, but he could be called back up to Seattle if something happens to either backstop at the major league level.

Brantly was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners decided to go with Chris Iannetta and Steve Clevenger as their two catchers to open the season, leaving no room for Brantly on the roster. The team will now have 10 days to trade or release Brantly, but it's more likely the Mariners will try to pass him through waivers and then stash him at Triple-A Tacoma.

Brantly, who joined the Mariners only about two weeks ago, could win the backup catcher job, though Steve Clevenger is still the favorite, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Brantley joined the Mariners on March 12, but he has impressed with his play this spring. The Mariners traded Mark Trumbo and his contract for Clevenger, so it would be a little surprising if he doesn't win the job. Both players are out of options, but the Mariners likely will try to sneak one through waivers. Both are also left-handed to starter Chris Iannetta's right-handed bat. The backup figures to catch about 50-60 games.

Brantly was claimed off waivers by the Mariners on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Brantly enters a catchers group high on depth but low on star power, with Chris Iannetta, Steve Clevenger, Mike Zunino, and Steve Baron all in the mix for playing time. Brantly, a career .225/.286/.317 hitter, will likely report to Triple-A Tacoma and hope for a 25-man spot to open sometime during the season.

Brantly (knee) is in the lineup Wednesday against the A's, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
A knee issue has limited Brantly over the past several days, but he has been cleared to return behind the plate Wednesday to catch for starter Erik Johnson. Brantly has gone 2-for-12 with a homer so far with the big club after batting .310/.335/.483 in 53 games between Double-A and Triple-A.

Brantly is day-to-day with a knee issue, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Robin Ventura characterized Brantly's injury as a "nagging" issue. As the third catcher for the White Sox, Brantly isn't expected to see much action even once he returns to 100 percent health.

Brantly was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Phil Rogers of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Brantly turned in respectable numbers between Double-A and Triple-A this season (.310/.335/.483), it was only over a 53-game sample, and the White Sox have not suggested the 26-year-old will be more than the third catcher down the stretch. He's hit just .235/.298/.325 in 98 career games at the major league level.

Brantly (thumb) was activated form the disabled list and optioned to Double-A Birmingham on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Brantly's rehab assignment with Double-A hasn't gone well offensively, as he's gone just 2-for-17 at the dish in four games. The White Sox have decided to stick with Tyler Flowers and Geovany Soto behind the plate for now, but an injury to either of the two backstops could lead to a recall for Brantly.

Brantly (thumb) was sent to Double-A Birmingham on Thursday to start a rehab assignment, ESPN Chicago's Doug Padilla reports. Brantly may be optioned to the minors at the end of his rehab assignment, but Geovany Soto hasn't made much of a case to keep the gig as Tyler Flowers' top backup. Between the three players, there's very little offensive potential. The decision may ultimately depend on the respective performances of Brantly and Soto over the next week or two.
