Fielder's slow start to the season continued Thursday as his batting average dipped down to .175. Although he struck out just once Thursday, he has been whiffing at an alarming rate thus far in 2016, fanning 14 times in 40-at bats. Still, some of his slow start can be attributed to some bad luck given his .273 BABIP entering Thursday, as well as his career-low 64% contact rate. Once he finds his groove, those numbers should progress towards his career averages.

Fielder has been given a mask and breathing device to use when sleeping, and he noticed improvement after his first night using them. Doctors told Fielder that sleep apnea is considered serious if a person stops breathing 30 times an hour while sleeping, and his breathing was stopped 39 times per hour while under supervision.
