Kozma is viewed as the favorite for one of the final bench spots on the Opening Day 25-man roster, MLB.com reports. Kozma has worked in the outfield and behind the plate as an emergency catcher this spring and his versatility should help him lock up one of the few open bench spots. His fantasy value, however, is still non-existent in virtually every league.

Kozma is getting work behind the plate and may serve as the Cardinals emergency catcher, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Kozma and fellow infielder Greg Garcia will get work behind the plate this spring. This certainly helps Kozma's odds of making the 25-man roster, but it still had to be considered a long-shot.

Kozma was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. Kozma will provide the Cardinals with another bat off the bench for what will likely be the remainder of the season. The 26-year-old shortstop hit .248/.330/.372 at Triple-A this season, but will probably see limited playing time with the Cardinals in September.

Cardinals designated INF Pete Kozma for assignment. Kozma came up big for the Cards down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs in 2012, but he hit a sickly .217/.275/.273 last year as the starting shortstop and was no longer in the team's plans. He can't hit a lick, but Kozma's steady glove could draw some interest on waivers.

Cardinals recalled INF Pete Kozma from Triple-A Memphis. Kozma is batting .234/.341/.372 in 59 games this season at Memphis and is doubtful to get much playing time in what will likely be an abbreviated stay with St. Louis. He was the Cardinals' starting shortstop last year but they of course signed Jhonny Peralta over the winter.

Cardinals optioned INF Pete Kozma to Triple-A Memphis. The move clears a spot for Mark Ellis to be activated from the disabled list. Kozma has only logged three plate appearances so far this season and will now serve as infield depth in the minors.

Adam Rubin on ESPNNewYork.com reports the Cardinals are making Pete Kozma available in trade talks. Rubin also notes that despite his availability and the Mets' desire to acquire a starting shortstop, the team isn't believed to be interested in the soon-to-be 26-year-old. It's not surprising, as Komza doesn't offer much of an upgrade at the plate over current shortstop Ruben Tejada. The Tigers may have some interest in Kozma to fill in during Jose Iglesias' absence.

Pete Kozma is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the World Series against the Red Sox on Thursday. Kozma had an awful performance in the field in Game 1, so Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is going with Daniel Descalso at shortstop for Game 2. Another change has Jon Jay in center field in place of Shane Robinson.
