Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) is scheduled to play in a minor league game on Friday. It will be his first live game since having his appendix removed in mid-February. Florimon is hoping to open the season as the Twins' starting shortstop, but he'll have to avoid physical setbacks to pull that off.

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) hopes to make his Grapefruit League debut in a week. Florimon has been going through fielding drills and taking batting practice with no issues. He'll be able to get in about two weeks' worth of spring at-bats, which should be enough to prepare him for Opening Day. "I think 25, 30 at-bats, and I think I would be ready," he said.

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) fielded grounders at shortstop on Wednesday in Twins camp. Florimon is performing most baseball-related activities at this point and should be close to 100 percent by the start of the regular season. He had to take a couple of weeks off after having his appendix removed. The final hurdle before his Grapefruit League debut will be live batting practice.

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) took 20-30 light swings off a tee Sunday in Twins camp. Florimon told reporters after the workout that he felt no discomfort. He underwent an appendectomy in mid-February and might not make his Grapefruit League debut for another week, but there's still some hope that the Minnesota shortstop will be ready for Opening Day.

Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Friday that Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) could begin the season on the disabled list. He added that the timetable for the shortstop will be closely in line with the opener. The good news is that a DL stint could be backdated, so Florimon seems unlikely to miss a full two weeks if a move is made. The shortstop is hoping to resume hitting next week.

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) hopes to resume hitting in the batting cage next week. Florimon rode a stationary bike for 20 minutes Monday and has been approved to lift 15 to 20 pounds in the weight room. He will have enough time to get ready by Opening Day. "I have to take it slow," the shortstop said.

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) was released from the hospital Tuesday. Florimon woke up in the middle of the night Monday with discomfort in his side and required an appendectomy. His appendix didn't burst, so he didn't need emergency surgery, which likely would have sidelined him for significantly longer. As is, he'll be shut down from baseball activities for at least two weeks.

Pedro Florimon underwent an emergency appendectomy on Sunday night and will be shut down for two weeks. It's early enough that Florimon should be able to catch back up with the other players in Twins camp by the start of the 2014 regular season. The 27-year-old is slated to return as Minnesota's starting shortstop despite batting .221/.281/.330 in 134 games last year.

Pedro Florimon has three two-hit games in the past week of play in the Dominican Winter League. Florimon missed three weeks with an oblique strain, but he is back in action now for Leones del Escogido and looking to finish strong. The 27-year-old will open the 2014 season as the Twins' starting shortstop.

Pedro Florimon has been out of Dominican Winter League action since December 6 due to an oblique strain. It will presumably rule him out for the rest of winter ball, but Twins general manager Terry Ryan says the injury is "not considered serious." Florimon will be ready to roll for the start of spring training.
