Florimon was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Sunday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
EDGE Analysis
Florimon and Jason Rogers both lost out to Cole Figueroa for the final spot on the Pirates' bench, though Rogers was at least able to hang on to his 40-man roster designation. It's possible that another team will claim Florimon off waivers given his ample experience at the big-league level over parts of the last four seasons, but as a glove-first player, he's best suited for a backup role and doesn't figure to provide much fantasy value if given the opportunity for extended at-bats.

Florimon's contract has been selected by the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Florimon hasn't been very impressive offensively this season, nor throughout his career, but he'll provide the Pirates with another infield option with the ability to be a late-game substitution defensively. However, it's unlikely he'll see a significant amount of playing time in September.

Florimon has cleared waivers, and will be outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Bill Brink reports. This comes as no surprise, as Florimon has shown little ability to hit big league pitching (.204 career average). He will provide the Pirates with organizational middle-infield depth.

Florimon was designated for assignment Sunday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. If he isn't claimed on waivers, Florimon will be one of the Pirates' first options should the need for infield depth arise.

The Pirates claimed Florimon off waivers from the Nationals on Thursday, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. Florimon did not appear in a game with the Nationals after being claimed by the club in mid-September. He struggled mightily with the bat last season but could get a shot to compete for a utility job during spring training.

The Nationals claimed Florimon off waivers from the Twins on Thursday. Florimon compiled a disastrous .092/.179/.132 batting line in 33 games with Minnesota earlier this season, but he'll get a fresh start with Washington, with Eury Perez designated for assignment in the corresponding move. Although Florimon has played primarily at short in his professional career, he can play second base and third base if needed. He'll likely serve merely as depth over the final week of the regular season.

Pedro Florimon Jr. went 0-for-3 and lost a popup in the sun for an RBI double Thursday in the loss to the Angels. Florimon is hitting .096 this year, so he needs to be pretty stellar defensively to justify some playing time and he hasn't been quite that good. He'll return to the bench once Danny Santana gets healthy.

Twins recalled INF Pedro Florimon from Triple-A Rochester. He's taking Trevor Plouffe's (oblique) spot on the roster. Florimon was sent down last month after hitting just .108/.194/.154, and he didn't exactly catch the world on fire at Triple-A, either, with a .230/.291/.330. The 27-year-old will be used as a backup infielder.
