Alvarez has reached a "temporary resolution" to remain with the Orioles' at Triple-A Norfolk, Dan Connolly of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old slugger could have opted out of his deal Thursday, but somehow he and the organization managed to keep things at status quo. Details on Alvarez's agreement have been kept mum, but it's said to not be a long-term fix. His experiment playing the outfield has not gone well, thus limiting his usefulness to the Orioles as of now.

Alvarez is expected to opt out of his minor-league contract and leave Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
As was the case with Michael Bourn, the O's are planning for the departure of another veteran working under a minor-league deal. The organization hoped to develop Alvarez as an outfielder, but that experiment hasn't panned out. The 30-year-old leads the International League with 26 RBI in May, but his overall performance this year has been less than impressive. Through 51 games with the Tides, Alvarez is slashing .219/.293/.443 with 47 strikeouts in 201 at-bats.

Alvarez is having a hard time learning to play the outfield at Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Not one of Alvarez's 851 career MLB games was spent in the outfield, but the Orioles are willing to ride out the experiment this year. However, the real question is whether or not the 30-year-old is prepared to stick with it. Alvarez, who has an opt-out clause in his contract for next month, could understandably decide to look elsewhere for work -- or possibly hang the cleats up altogether.

Alvarez, who went 2-for-3 with three walks, launched two home runs and plated five in Thursday's Opening Day for Triple-A Norfolk.
EDGE Analysis
Playing in his first minor-league game since 2011, the 30-year-old appeared far superior to the competition. Alvarez put together a fine showing in Grapefruit League play after signing an NRI deal in March. However, the wick is burning fast on his career, and hanging around Triple-A won't be appealing to Alvarez for long. Although there isn't much room for the slugger on the MLB roster, his long history of posting good power numbers at the highest level should afford him a chance with the Orioles later in the year.

Alvarez will begin the season with Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old slugger was a late addition to Orioles camp after signing an NRI deal earlier in March, but he certainly did his best to prove his worth to his new bosses by posting a .900 OPS with two home runs in eight spring games. Even though this assignment isn't the news he was looking for, Alvarez will likely find his way back to the majors if he continues to mash during his time in the minors, as raw power like his is tough to find anywhere else in the big leagues.

Alvarez patrolled the outfield during the Orioles' "B" game Friday, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez made a dive on a sinking line drive to hold a hit to a single, while also hitting a home run and a double during the practice contest. The veteran is trying to expand his defensive horizons in an effort to make the major league club, though it's far from a guarantee that he'll stick on the outfield grass. Even with his flaws in the field and at the dish (career .238 average), that faint possibility of extra work gives deep mixed and AL-only fantasy players another reason -- on a trial basis -- to roster the slugger, who has launched at least 22 home runs in four his last five seasons and left the yard 36 times in 2013.

Alvarez agreed to a minor league deal with the Orioles on Saturday, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports reports.
EDGE Analysis
It marks the end of a long negotiation process between the two sides which carried over well into spring training. Interestingly, the deal is conclusive upon Alvarez playing in the outfield, a position he has never played in the majors. If his defensive abilities appear adequate, he could earn some starts in left field against right-handed pitchers, but may be able to make the roster regardless of how he looks in the field. Alvarez has demonstrated he still has pop in his bat, smashing 22 home runs last season while serving mainly as the designated hitter. Expect him to report to spring training as soon as the deal is finalized.

Alvarez continues to hold out for a major league contract, FanRag Sports' John Perrotto reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez had to wait until March 10 to sign last spring, and despite hitting .249/.322/.504 with 22 home runs in 109 games with the Orioles, the market for one-dimensional sluggers is clearly not what it was even a year ago. If Alvarez can land a deal to DH against righties, his massive raw power would make him appealing in deeper leagues, but it is also possible that he will have to swallow his pride and take a minor league pact.

Alvarez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez will be on the bench for the fifth game in a row while the Orioles look to make outfield defense a greater priority by moving Mark Trumbo to DH to clear room for the speedier Michael Bourn in right field. A .208 average and three homers over 59 plate appearances since the start of September hasn't helped Alvarez's argument for a regular lineup spot.

Alvarez went 1-for-5 with a solo homer in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning victory over the D-backs.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran slugger broke the ice on a dismal offensive performance up to that point by taking reliever Enrique Burgos deep with a 407-foot shot to right in the eighth, kick-starting the Orioles' comeback. Despite the homer Friday and some modest success making hard contact during the month, Alvarez is struggling overall in September, as evidenced by his .195 average over 41 at-bats.
