Infante is considering surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow after this season, MLB.com reports. Pain and inflammation caused by the bone spur has affected Infante's abilities on the field for two-plus years, but the Royals opted against surgery earlier in the offseason and it sounds like Infante plans to tough it out again this year. "I'm thinking about it after this season -- right after this season," Infante said. "I want it to get better." Infante, who is entering the second season of a four-year, $30.25 million deal, was recently treated with a cortisone shot and could resume throwing activities Saturday. He has served as the Royals' designated hitter in spring action the past two days.

Infante (elbow) made his spring training debut Wednesday against the Reds, going 1-for-4 with a double and three groundouts. Infante is on pace to be ready for the start of the season, but if the elbow becomes an issue again or his performance continues to decline, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Christian Colon pick up a few starts in his place.

Infante (elbow) will resume his throwing program Saturday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports. Infante plans to serve as the designated hitter in Wednesday's spring contest, so the throwing issue won't keep him out of action entirely. The 33-year-old infielder has a target of 10 spring games that he hopes to play in before Opening Day, and if all continues to go well with the throwing program, he should be ready to resume a regular workload by then. If he suffers any setbacks along the way, Christian Colon would then be in line to make a run for extra reps. No ligament damage was revealed during Friday's MRI, however, suggesting little need to consider backup options just yet.

Infante underwent an MRI on his right elbow Friday, which showed a bone spur but no ligament damage, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. With Infante complaining of pain in the elbow, similar to what he experienced last spring, the Royals scratched him from Friday's spring game and scheduled an MRI. Fortunately, no major damage was found, and the team is confident it will not force a long-term absence. There's a possibility the team could opt for a cortisone shot, which would likely keep Infante off the field for several more days.

Infante indicated Thursday that he's "still not 100 percent," but is feeling better. However, he's yet to throw a ball hard, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports. Infante is expected to be the starting second baseman heading into the 2015 season, but an extended absence will give others a chance to prove their worth in spring training. Infante was pretty good himself last season, batting .252/.295/.337 with six home runs and nine stolen bases. While he's still the favorite to begin the season as the club's second baseman, a strong spring performance from Christian Colon could throw a wrench into things.

Infante said Thursday that his right shoulder and elbow feel fine, MLB.com reports. "The shoulder is fine now," Infante said. "I don't really feel anything with [the elbow] either, maybe just a little bit. Not worried." Infante was able to play through several nagging injuries last season but his performance suffered, both on offense and defense. While the shoulder was especially troublesome down the stretch and into the postseason, the issue did not require surgery and both Infante and manager Ned Yost seem unconcerned about the injury lingering into 2015. Infante hit and threw Wednesday and Thursday without any major issues.

Royals GM Dayton Moore said Wednesday that he does not believe Infante will require surgery on his shoulder, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports. Infante battled shoulder issues throughout the entire season and admitted just last month that he feels "a lot of pain" when he swings, but it seems doctors have determined rest and rehabilitation will provide ample treatment for the injury. While the 32-year-old had four extra-base hits in the World Series, he had just a .632 OPS during the regular season, close to 80 points below his career mark of .711, and still has three years remaining on his contract.

Infante may need offseason surgery to repair a shoulder injury, the Kansas City Star reports. The shoulder discomfort first popped up in spring training and lingered on and off, resulting in just a .623 OPS for the season, Infante's lowest mark since 2005. He recently admitted that he feels "a lot of pain" when he swings in batting practice, and his teammates skip him when the ball sails around the horn in the infield. Further, Infante went 0-for-11 during the ALDS, but he is not expected to lose playing time during the Championship Series.

Infante (shoulder) will start Saturday's game against the Indians, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports. After testing the sore shoulder that held him out the past four games, Infante is able to manage hitting at the very least. It's unclear if he'll assume DH duty or return to his typical spot at second base.

Infante has been dealing with shoulder inflammation and will miss the next three days, according to manager Ned Yost, AM 610's Josh Vernier reports. Yost said Infante has been dealing with the inflammation for "two or three weeks," and given Infante's age (32 years old), it's not surprising the Royals will give him a few days to rest. Christian Colon will start at second base Tuesday.
