Greenwood has signed a minor league contract with the Cubs, MLB Trade Rumors reported Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Greenwood, a 14th-round pick in 2009, appeared in one major league game last season and allowed two runs without recording an out. In 2014 he posted a 4.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 36 relief innings. His control is impeccable, as he walked just 1.7 batter per nine innings in Triple-A last year, but hitters have teed off on him, as he allowed 16 home runs in 129 innings and struck out just 60 batters. Unless his stuff improves significantly, he just can't match up with major league hitting.

Greenwood was designated for assignment on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Greenwood was called up at the beginning of September, but didn't pitch during his latest stint with the Cardinals. He's being designated for assignment to clear room for Matt Adams, who's returning from the 60-Day DL.

Greenwood was recalled from Triple-A Memphis, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Greenwood will likely serve as something of a long man/mop up man out of the Cardinals' pen down the stretch. He made 31 appearances (21 starts) at Triple-A Memphis this year and posted a 5.68 ERA.

Greenwood was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. The 27-year-old lefty has a 9.64 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 14 innings as a reliever with Memphis, so it may not be a long stay with the big league club. Look for him to come in for low-leverage chances against lefties.

Greenwood was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. Greenwood's 4.75 ERA in 36 innings with the big club last year was more than a full run higher than his xFIP (3.65), but the lefty did not fare all that well in four Grapefruit League appearances and the team ultimately decided to go with other options. The 27-year-old did take a big leap forward with his control last season (1.8 BB/9 at Triple-A), but he's never been able to miss bats at a high clip (5.9 K/9 in minors).

Greenwood will start in place of Adam Wainwright in Sunday's regular season finale, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports. Greenwood began warming up as soon as the Cardinals discovered they had clinched the NL Central title, following the Pirates' loss to the Reds on Sunday afternoon. The 27-year-old Greenwood has a 5.18 ERA over 18 relief appearances for the Cardinals this season, and likely isn't a high-percentage fantasy play, even against the lowly Diamondbacks.

Greenwood was recalled from Double-A Springfield on Tuesday. Greenwood will proved an extra arm out of the bullpen for the Cardinals in September. While he struggled in 16 games with the Cardinals earlier in the season, he posted good numbers with Triple-A Memphis (5.02 ERA and 1.04 WHIP) and has earned a spot back back with the big league club.

Greenwood was optioned to Double-A Springfield on Sunday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Greenwood's stay in the minors will be brief, as he'll be eligible to return to the Cardinals on Tuesday, when Springfield's season comes to an end. Once he's back with the big club, Greenwood will be tasked will pitching primarily low-leverage innings in long relief.

Greenwood was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday. With Jason Motte headed to the DL with a back injury, Greenwood will return for his second stint with the big club this season. The left-hander made his major league debut earlier in the year and went on to allow 10 runs in nine appearances (19 innings) out of the bullpen with St. Louis. He could eat some innings in long relief and see some opportunities based on matchups in the days ahead.
