Soto was traded to the White Sox on Monday for cash considerations, CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes reports. The corner infielder will presumably start the year at Triple-A for the White Sox, offering organizational depth.

Soto was sent outright to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, MLB.com reports. A member of the Reds' Opening Day roster, Soto went just 3-for-28 over the first two months of the season and was ultimately sent down to Louisville. The 25-year-old turned in a respectable .302/.350/.406 batting line in 75 games with the affiliate, but it wasn't enough to get the call back in September, and apparently the Reds have seen enough from the former third-round pick to rule him out of their future plans.

He's since bounced around between third and first base but has never really found a home defensively. It might be a long shot that the soon-to-be 25-year-old will work out behind the plate, but his bat would be intriguing if the conversion is successful. Soto hit .271/.313/.414 with 15 homers last season and slugged 31 bombs back in 2011.
