Orioles purchased the contract of OF Nate McLouth from Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles needed to promote McLouth or risk losing him due to an escape clause in his contract. He'll look to provide an upgrade over Lew Ford and Ryan Flaherty in left field.

Orioles signed OF Nate McLouth to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk. McLouth was released by the Pirates last week after batting just .140/.210/.175 with no homers over 57 at-bats this season. The 30-year-old hasn't been a useful player for a couple of years now, but he'll make for fine outfield depth at the Triple-A level.

Pirates released OF Nate McLouth. Predictably, no team had interest in a prorated amount of McLouth's $1.75 salary. Signed as a free agent by the Bucs over the winter, the former star flopped, batting just .140/.210/.175 with no homers over 57 at-bats. He should be able to procure a minor league deal within another organization.

MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez confirms the Angels have ''no interest'' in free agent Nate McLouth. The Angels are without Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells (thumb), but McLouth was never a realistic fit. Designated for assignment earlier this week, it's possible he'll be given his unconditional release by the Pirates.

Nate McLouth was removed from Sunday's game after fouling a pitch off his right foot. He stayed in the game initially, but the Pirates decided to play it safe and take him out. The move was considered precautionary, so McLouth should be fine in a day or two.

Pirates signed OF Nate McLouth to a one-year, $1.75 million contract. McLouth, 30, batted just .229/.335/.364 over parts of three seasons with the Braves, but he's hoping a return to Pittsburgh will get his career back on track. The Pirates already have Andrew McCutchen, Jose Tabata and Alex Presley are projected starters in their outfield, so he'll likely contribute as a fourth outfielder.
