Mitchell Boggs is being used as a starter for Triple-A Memphis. It doesn't mean he would be considered for a starting role with the big club. Rather, the Cards want to afford Boggs as many innings as possible to work on his issues. He's allowed three runs -- one earned -- over six innings across two starts. It will be a while before the Cards consider Boggs for a promotion.

Cardinals optioned RHP Mitchell Boggs to Triple-A Memphis. The move comes on the heels of Boggs blowing a save in Thursday's loss to the Royals. The 29-year-old allowed three runs in four-plus innings over four appearances during his most recent stint with the club and now owns an ugly 11.05 ERA and 11/15 K/BB over 14 2/3 innings this season. He'll attempt to right himself in the minors once again.

Getting the nod in the closer's role with Edward Mujica resting, Mitchell Boggs gave up a homer to the first batter he faced Thursday and blew the save against the Royals. Jeff Francoeur hit a line-drive homer on Boggs' second pitch of the outing. Mujica definitely needed the rest tonight, but Trevor Rosenthal should been available and it was quite the surprise that Mike Matheny went to Boggs instead. Boggs ended up being pulled after walking the second batter he faced tonight. He has allowed 19 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings for the season.

Cardinals recalled RHP Mitchell Boggs from Triple-A Memphis. Boggs struggled mightily after being named the Cardinals' closer at the start of the 2013 season and was optioned to Memphis on May 3 with a 12.66 ERA. He wasn't exactly flawless during his time on the farm and will probably be limited to low-leverage situations for a while. Edward Mujica's job is obviously safe.

Mitchell Boggs has tossed five scoreless innings since his demotion to Triple-A Memphis. Boggs has permitted three hits, walked two and struck out four. Three of his five innings have required at least 20 pitches, but the Cardinals have been pleased with his progress beyond some efficiency issues. "It sounds like he has made a couple of good mechanical adjustments," manager Mike Matheny said. "The reports from the people who have been seeing him is that it looks like he is in a real good spot. He's an established major league player, so it's not an easy assignment. It seems like he is happy with how he's progressed. It's still yet to be seen how this all plays out, but he's going about this the right way."

Cardinals optioned RHP Mitchell Boggs to Triple-A Memphis. After losing the closer job, Boggs wasn't able to figure things out in setup and mop-up roles, so he'll try to work out the kinks at Triple-A. The Cards will continue to use Trevor Rosenthal as the primary setup man to Edward Mujica. The club has not announced a corresponding move, but John Gast is receiving consideration for a promotion.

The Cardinals are expected to option Mitchell Boggs to Triple-A Memphis prior to Friday's game. Boggs entered the season as the team's closer with Jason Motte on the shelf, but he's since lost that job and has continued to struggle in setup and mop-up roles. The righty walked both Brewers hitters he faced Thursday and has now permitted a whopping 31 baserunners in 10 2/3 innings. It appears that John Gast is the likely option to replace him on the roster.

Mitchell Boggs walked both Brewers he faced before being pulled from Thursday's game against the Brewers. Incredibly enough, he was the only one of the four Cardinals' relievers tonight not to give up a run. Joe Kelly allowed two un two-thirds of an inning, Trevor Rosenthal allowed an unearned run in the eighth and closer Edward Mujica gave up one in the ninth before finishing off the 6-5 victory. Both Kelly and Boggs would seem to be in line for demotions to Triple-A if the Cardinals can come up with anyone to replace them.

Mitchell Boggs gave up four runs in an eighth inning relief appearance Sunday against the Phillies. Boggs wasn't used in a save situation, and there hasn't been any indication that he'll be returning to the closer job anytime soon. He was charged with the loss after giving up a three-run shot to Erik Kratz and now has a 12.46 ERA in 10 appearances this season. The Cardinals will continue to go with Edward Mujica as their closer in the short-term, with Boggs and Trevor Rosenthal remaining in setup roles.

Mitchell Boggs tossed a scoreless ninth inning in the Cardinals' defeat of the Phillies on Saturday. The Cardinals had a 5-0 lead entering the final frame, so it was not a save situation. Boggs has rattled off two straight scoreless appearances but save opportunities for the time being are going to Edward Mujica.
