Fiers will start Sunday's game against the Giants, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Athletics had initially hoped that Frankie Montas (back) would be able to return to the rotation Monday, but he won't be ready. As a result, Fiers will take the mound one day early in the series finale against San Francisco.

Fiers (1-1) took the loss against the Angels on Tuesday, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and appeared to settle down with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the next two frames, but the right-hander was lifted in a disastrous fourth inning in which he allowed all five of the runs scored against him. He did little to fool Angels hitters in the short start, inducing only four swinging strikes and allowing a season-high three home runs. Fiers will carry a 6.86 ERA into his next start, which is scheduled to take place at Arizona on Monday.

Fiers (1-0) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers worked through the first four innings under little duress, allowing only one hit and one walk. However, he wore down as the start went along, surrendering one run in the fifth and sixth frames and two in the seventh. Fiers has not been particularly effective through three starts, striking out only five batters across 16 innings while racking up a 5.63 ERA. He'll look to get on track in his next outing, currently projected for Tuesday at the Angels.

Fiers allowed two runs on four hits and one walk over six innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Saturday. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers was outdueled by Yusei Kikuchi, but he kept his team in it and the A's ultimately rallied against the Seattle bullpen to pull back to .500 on the young season. The right-hander gave up four runs in as many innings against Anaheim in his 2020 debut last week, with zero strikeouts. His strikeout rate had already been in steady decline, but the Oakland defense vacuums up a lot of that contact; Fiers outperformed the estimators by more than a full run last season. He lines up for a home start against the Rangers next week.

Fiers allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings and failed to record a strikeout in a no-decision versus the Angels on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers was never in danger of taking the loss, as the Athletics spotted him a five-run lead in the first inning. The right-hander ended up using most of that advantage. The unimpressive start shouldn't be too much cause for concern. Fiers will make his second start of the year in Seattle on Saturday.

Fiers will start the Athletics' third game of the season Sunday against the Angels, when he'll try to bounce back from a shaky outing in an exhibition against the Giants, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander may have had a shot at an Opening Day start at one point, but a delayed arrival at summer camp essentially nullified that possibility. Instead, Fiers will slot in behind Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea and close out the season-opening three-game set, and he'll hope for a better performance than the one he mustered versus the Giants on Tuesday. Fiers allowed three runs on three hits and two walks over 3.1 innings against San Francisco, surrendering a pair of solo home runs over 67 pitches. "It didn't go as well as I wanted to but I got my work in," Fiers said. "I made it tough on myself being pretty wild. I wasn't throwing the ball exactly where I wanted it to. I just have to find how to settle down when those times come."

Fiers is unlikely to receive the Opening Day starting nod due to the time he missed early in summer camp as a precaution, Jerry McDonald of The Mercury News reports. "He's probably not as far along as a couple of guys at this point based on the fact that he had to sit down for a couple of days," manager Bob Melvin said. "When you only have so much time to get ready, maybe it sets you back a tad, but if anybody can make it up in a hurry it's him."
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander purposely delayed his arrival into summer camp by a couple of extra days because he'd been training regularly with Jesus Luzardo, who tested positive for COVID-19, during the shutdown. Fiers never produced a positive result himself, but he opted to take the cautionary route. The 35-year-old's decision to throw consistently while play was paused is paying dividends, however, as he doesn't feel he's far behind the pace of building up to 100 pitches and caught the eye of manager Bob Melvin during a bullpen session earlier in the week. "I'm just trying to stay within myself and just be myself," Fiers said. "I pride myself on throwing all my pitches for strikes and throwing them on any count and locating every pitch. That's how I pitch and what I do. I'm not trying to throw any harder, just locate my pitches."

Fiers returned to workouts Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers was not with the Athletics for their first few days of workouts due to what manager Bob Melvin called "pending issues." Teams across the league are legally required to be vague regarding coronavirus-related absences, but regardless of whether that was the reason Fiers had yet to join his teammates, he's back with them now. He's a candidate for the team's Opening Day start, though whether or not his absence will keep him from being game-ready by that date remains to be seen.

Fiers is not yet in the Athletics' summer camp due to "pending issues" according to manager Bob Melvin, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander is considered a strong candidate for the role of Opening Day starter, so his early absence from summer camp, which began Saturday for the Athletics, is especially noteworthy. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the other member of the team's rotation currently missing from camp, Jesus Luzardo, worked out frequently with Fiers in South Florida throughout the shutdown. Melvin did not provide any further details to reporters about either player, and he confirmed that Fiers' issues, whatever they might be, do not affect the team's early-season rotation plans "at this point" while allowing that could change should the situation linger "a little bit longer."

Fiers was in a battle with rotation mate Frankie Montas to start Opening Day when spring training was suspended, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander got plenty of work in before play was paused, logging 13 innings across four Cactus League starts and working up to 74 pitches in his last outing March 10. Fiers posted an elevated 4.85 ERA over that span, but all eight runs he surrendered this spring came in half of his appearances. Fiers managed a career-best season in 2019, posting a 15-4 record and 3.90 ERA over a career-high 33 starts.
