Fiers (elbow) will be shut down for a couple of weeks, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right elbow Saturday, and he's dealing with an old ligament injury that now has some fluid built up. As a result, the right-hander will be shut down from throwing to allow it to fully heal. It's not yet clear who could take Fiers' spot in the rotation.

Fiers was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right elbow Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out two in 3.1 innings Thursday, and he's now apparently dealing with an elbow injury. It's not yet clear how much time he could miss or whether he'll have a spot in the rotation once he returns. Right-hander Burch Smith (groin) was reinstated from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move.

Fiers (0-2) allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks while fanning two across 3.1 innings Thursday against the Blue Jays. He was tagged with the loss.
EDGE Analysis
The 35-year-old looked decent in his first start of the season, but the wheels came off here and couldn't even get out of the fourth inning after giving up two home runs. It's been just two starts, but Fiers will have to turn things around quickly if he wants to stick in the rotation for an extended period. As things stand now, he's tabbed to start next week on the road against the Red Sox.

Fiers is scheduled to start Thursday's series finale against the Blue Jays, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers was inserted to the rotation April 30 against the Orioles in what was expected to be a spot start, but he'll end up getting a second turn after Jesus Luzardo (finger) was moved to the 10-day injured list Saturday. The 35-year-old right-hander fared respectably in his season debut, limiting Baltimore to three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings.

Fiers (0-1) allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three across six innings to take the loss to the Orioles on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers made his first start of the season Friday after coming off the 10-day injured list with hip inflammation. His start would've been much better if it wasn't for back-to-back home runs allowed in the third inning with two outs. The 35-year-old could end up in the bullpen soon unless Oakland runs a six-man rotation.

Fiers will return to the rotation for at least one start Friday against the Orioles, Alex Coffey of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers missed the start of the season while dealing with hip inflammation. He returned from the injured list Monday, with previous reports indicating that he'd serve as a reliever for the time being. The Athletics have evidently changed plans, as Fiers will make at least one start, but the team has yet to decide whether it will go with a six-man rotation or send him back to the bullpen following Friday's contest.

Athletics pitching coach Scott Emerson said Monday that Fiers (hip) will work out of the bullpen initially after being reinstated from the 10-day injured list, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Emerson indicated that Fiers' move to the bullpen isn't definitive, but he'll be on hand as a long-relief option over the next couple of days before the Athletics decide whether he or Cole Irvin will serve as the team's fifth starter moving forward. Considering Fiers hasn't posted a FIP below 4.50 in any of the last four seasons, the Athletics may have difficulty justifying placing him back in the rotation over Irvin, who churned out a 3.86 ERA (3.57 FIP) in 21 innings over his first four starts.

The Athletics reinstated Fiers (hip) from the 10-day injured list Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers is healthy again after missing most of the first month of the season while battling hip inflammation, but the Athletics haven't been willing to clarify what his role might look like now that he's back on the active roster. Expect manager Bob Melvin to shed more light on Fiers' role when he meets with the media Monday, but considering that Sean Manaea has already been named the starter for the Athletics' series opener in Tampa Bay, it would be a surprise if Oakland activated the 35-year-old with the intention of deploying him in the rotation. While Fiers has been on the mend, Cole Irvin has performed admirably as Oakland's No. 5 starter, turning in a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB across 21 innings over four outings.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin indicated that Fiers (hip) felt good Tuesday after making what was likely his final rehab start before returning from the 10-day injured list, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "We'll see where we go...He's going to have four more days of rest so we won't have to make a decision until then," Melvin said, when asked what role Fiers would fill upon being activated.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers is presumably stretched out enough to start games for Oakland, but it's unclear if the club plans to have him fill a spot in the rotation, or if he'll head to the bullpen in a long-relief role. While Fiers has been on the mend, Cole Irvin has stepped in as the fifth starter. Irvin was roughed up for eight runs in 9.2 innings over his first two outings, but he made a more compelling case to stick around in the rotation after striking out six and walking none over six shutout frames in his most recent start Saturday against the Tigers.

Fiers (hip) threw 77 pitches in a scrimmage game against Giants minor leaguers at the Athletics' alternate training site Thursday and may need just one more rehab start before joining the rotation, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Having come out of Thursday's outing without setbacks, Fiers is being lined up to throw about 90 pitches in another scrimmage game Tuesday at the alternate site. If he passes that test as well, manager Bob Melvin confirmed "we'll look to do something" with respect to a possible activation. Fiers' eventual season debut could result in Cole Irvin, who has a 7.45 ERA through his first two starts, transitioning to a long-relief role.
