Mike Baxter (collarbone) went 2-for-4 with two RBI in his first rehab appearance Sunday at High-A St. Lucie. Baxter will need about 25-30 at-bats before returning, according to manager Terry Collins, meaning he could rejoin the Mets this weekend in New York. Jason Bay will be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, while Lucas Duda (hamstring) is being considered for a possible DL stint.

Mike Baxter (collarbone) hasn't resumed physical activity. Baxter suffered a displaced right collarbone when he slammed into the left field fence to save Johan Santana's no-hitter on June 1. He was originally expected to miss six weeks, so a return shortly after the All-Star break is still within reach.

Mike Baxter will start in left field Tuesday night against the Marlins. Baxter will get the first start in left now that Jason Bay is on the disabled list with a non-displaced rib fracture. Scott Hairston should also see an uptick in playing time and Kirk Nieuwenhuis will also likely figure in once Andres Torres (calf) returns from the disabled list. Baxter is the least appealing option from a fantasy perspective.

Mets signed INF-OF Mike Baxter to a minor league contract. He'll also get a spring training invite. Baxter, 27, was non-tendered by the Mets earlier this week in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The Queens native went 8-for-34 (.235) with one home run and four RBI in 22 games with New York in 2011. The Mets could make some more additions in the coming weeks, but Baxter is in good position to win a reserve outfielder job at the moment.
