Aviles (concussion) is beginning to feel better and hopes to resume normal baseball activities in the next few days, MLB.com reports. "Those first few days, he kind of looked under the weather. Again, he'll just start to pass milestones or tests along the way, and when he gets clearance, we'll get him back doing baseball stuff," manager Terry Francona said. Aviles could begin to start running and swinging a bat early next week but nothing is certain so far. He's most likely out until the middle part of next week in a best case scenario.

Manager Terry Francona said Thursday that Aviles has been experiencing concussion symptoms, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports. Though he won't go on the 7-day DL since it isn't necessary in September, Aviles will still be subjected to the league's concussion protocol. He initially passed his post-game concussion tests after he was removed Monday following a spell of dizziness, but as is common, his symptoms began to surface a couple days later. There's no concrete timetable for when Aviles might be available for the Indians, who have more than enough depth to get by without him, thanks to the reinforcements they called up earlier in the week.

Aviles (neck) remained sidelined Tuesday with whiplash symptoms, MLB.com reports. "He's passed all the concussion tests, which is good," manager Terry Francona said. "He still doesn't feel great. He's got the whiplash symptoms, so we'll keep him around here [Tuesday] to let the doc look at him again and then kind of go from there." Aviles could be sidelined for a few more days given his current progress. He's hitting .245 with five homers and 33 RBIs in 97 games.

Aviles was removed from Monday's game against the Tigers due to dizziness, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Aviles was replaced in right field by Zach Walters in the top of the fourth, but not before popping out in his sole at-bat. A bout with light-headedness is always worrisome, but consider Aviles day-to-day for now.

Aviles was 1-for-5 with a walk-off solo home run against Baltimore on Friday night. If you're only going to collect one hit, make it count. He took Brian Matusz deep leading off the bottom of the 11th inning for his fourth home run of the season.

Aviles isn't in the lineup Wednesday at Cincinnati. Prior to Wednesday's outing, Aviles received five consecutive starts (four in left field and one at shortstop) but only mustered three hits, three RBI, and three runs in 20 at-bats. In his stead, Nick Swisher (wrist) will return to action, covering left field and batting sixth in the order.

An X-ray on Mike Aviles' right big toe came back negative. Aviles has started the last two games after missing a few contests with the injury, but he still isn't running very well. Expect the Indians to be careful with his playing time over the next week or two.

Mike Aviles has been out of the lineup the last three days after stubbing his toe prior to Friday's game. Aviles didn't let Indians manager Terry Francona know he was injured prior to the game, so he wound up playing through the ailment and could have made it worse. The good news is that Aviles is better and available to start Wednesday. "I think he was hurting a little more than he let on," Francona said. "I told him, 'I wish you would've told me. I could've protected you a little bit.'"
