Montero is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Montero is struggling mightily this season, hitting a career low .202 with just three home runs and 15 RBI. If he doesn't pick up the slack, the 32-year-old is in danger of losing some starts to the rookie Wilson Contreras, who has been one of the hottest hitting prospects in all of baseball this season.

Montero does not appear to be threatened by the arrival of prospect Willson Contreras in Chicago, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports. "I'm excited," Montero said. "I'm excited for him. Now we're set. Now we've got the puzzle (piece)."
EDGE Analysis
Montero is saying all the right things about adding a third catcher to the team, but he's likely going to lose his job eventually to Contreras, possibly as early as this summer if Contreras keeps hitting and Montero keeps struggling. Montero, who went 0-for-5 Friday, is slashing just .156/.250/.250 in 32 June at-bats.

Montero is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Montero's 0-for-2 showing Monday dropped his season average to just .206 and he'll now head to the bench for the second time in three games. David Ross will get the start behind the plate in his place and bat eighth against Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez.

Montero is out of the lineup Sunday against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Montero has started four straight games behind the plate, but he was planning on sitting anyway Sunday with Jon Lester on the mound for Chicago. In his stead, Lester's personal catcher, David Ross, will man the backstop. Prior to Sunday's day off, Montero had recorded hits in three straight contests, including a three-run homer Saturday afternoon.

Montero is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Montero will get the day off while the duo of Jon Lester and David Ross handle the pitching and catching duties in the series opener. Montero is hitting just .205 in 15 games since being activated from the DL, but has still managed to get on base at an impressive .380 clip. The 32-year-old should be back in the lineup Tuesday.

Montero is out of the lineup Monday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Montero had drawn back-to-back starts, including Sunday's day game, so he'll be rested for the Cubs' second straight afternoon contest. David Ross will man the backstop in his stead, catching Monday's starter Jason Hammel.

Montero went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and another RBI in Sunday's win over the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
It's just his second home run of the season, and first since coming off the DL a couple of weeks ago. Montero's had a poor campaign so far, but there's still plenty of time for him to make an impact in a potent Cubs offense if he can stay healthy.

Montero is out of Friday's lineup.
EDGE Analysis
This comes as no surprise, as Jon Lester is taking the mound for Friday's matinee, so David Ross, who always catches Lester, will set up behind the plate. Montero is off to a pretty brutal start to the year, as he has been worth 0.1 wins above replacement, according to Fangraphs. The Cubs will undoubtedly give him a long leash, as they are otherwise firing on all cylinders, but Willson Contreras, who is hitting .326/.423/.511 at Triple-A, looms as a potential second half upgrade.
