McKenry is retiring from pro baseball in order to pursue an opportunity to work on the Middle Tennessee State University baseball team's staff, the Daily News Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran backstop alluded to the fact that he had multiple offers to continue his playing career, but he said he made a personal decision to leave the game on his own terms. He'll now take over as the MTSU's director of player development. In seven seasons in the big leagues, McKenry hit .238 with 29 home runs in 311 games played.

McKenry was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran backstop had no realistic shot of making the 25-man roster with a plethora of candidates (Luke Maile, Curt Casali and Jesus Sucre) already ahead of him before the Rays added Derek Norris. McKenry had hit just .125 with two doubles and two RBI over 36 spring plate appearances.

McKenry signed a minor league contract with the Rays on Friday, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
He's bounced from one organization to another over the past calendar year; from the Rangers to the Cardinals to the Braves to the Brewers and now the Rays. McKenry did have a couple decent seasons earlier in his career and can still take a walk and hit for a little power at 32 years old, but it would probably take a long-term injury behind the plate in Tampa Bay for him to get a look.

McKenry was traded to the Brewers on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The Brewers were seeking catching depth at the minor-league level, and they were able to swing a trade for McKenry, who will be playing for his fourth team this season. McKenry will be assigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs, but he has posted a .927 OPS at the Triple-A level this season, so he has a good chance to join the Brewers at some point before the regular season ends.

McKenry signed a minor league deal with the Braves on Saturday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan in Atlanta reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKenry was DFA'd by the Cardinals earlier in the week and elected free agency after passing through waivers unclaimed Friday. The 31-year-old had been hitting well at Triple-A, slashing .301/.424/.569 in 37 games, and he'll now head to the same level within the Braves organization in hopes of working his way back up to the big league club.

McKenry cleared waivers and elected free agency Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKenry went through his waiver period unclaimed by a big league club but instead of electing to return to Triple-A Memphis, he chose to become a free agent. The 31-year-old has slashed a robust .301/.424/.569 through 37 games at the Triple-A level this season and will likely be scooped up by another team that needs catching depth in the near future.

McKenry was designated for assignment Tuesday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKenry made only two plate appearances since his promotion to the big leagues on July 7 and will now head back to the minors on assignment. Now on a waiver period, the 31-year-old will be able to be picked up by another big league club but could in all likelihood remain with Triple-A Memphis where he's stayed since May.

McKenry's contract was purchased by the Cardinals on Thursday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKenry opted out of his deal with the Rangers back in May and has since been playing at Triple-A with the Cardinals' organization. Through 37 Triple-A contests, he's hitting .301 with 29 RBI and 10 doubles. Thursday's move will add him to the 40-man roster, as well as bring him up to St. Louis to fill the spot vacated by Matt Carpenter's (oblique) DL placement.

McKenry opted out of his minor-league contract with the Rangers on Saturday and will become a free agent, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKenry signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers in December with the hope that he'd eventually parlay the opportunity into a 40-man roster spot. However, even with Robinson Chirinos being placed on the 60-day DL early in the season with a broken forearm, the Rangers still didn't bring McKenry up, so he'll look to latch on with a different organization and work his way back to the big leagues. He was batting just .220 in 13 games with Triple-A Round Rock, but boasted a lofty .389 on-base percentage.

McKenry (abdomen) was activated from the DL at Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
After spending the spring with the big club as a non-roster invitee to major league camp, McKenry remained in Arizona at the start of the season to continue his rehab from an abdominal injury. With Robinson Chirinos (forearm) out for an extended period, there's a chance McKenry could eventually work his way into the conversation for a promotion, but Chris Gimenez (ankle) is inching closer to a return himself.
