Phillies released C Lou Marson. It appears that the Phillies are doing Marson a favor here, releasing him pretty early in camp so that he has time to catch on somewhere else. The 27-year-old should be able to land another minor league gig elsewhere.

Phillies signed C Lou Marson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. This is a homecoming for Marson, who was once a highly-regarded Phillies prospect. Philadelphia, you might recall, shipped him to Cleveland in July, 2009 along with Jason Knapp, Carlos Carrasco and Jason Donald for Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco. Marson slashed just .217/.308/.295 in five seasons with the Indians and was limited to three games this past season due to a neck injury. Marson will compete with Wil Nieves for the right to be Carlos Ruiz's understudy.

Indians non-tendered C Lou Marson. With Yan Gomes' emergence in 2013, the Indians no longer saw a fit for Marson, who was limited to just three games this past season due to a neck injury. He's a career .219/.309/.299 hitter but should land somewhere as a backup.

Indians activated C Lou Marson from the 60-day disabled list. Marson suffered a cervical neck strain in early April following a nasty collision at home plate with the Rays' Desmond Jennings. Cleveland made due without him in 2013 and could trade or non-tender Marson this winter.

Indians transferred C Lou Marson from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. It's a procedural move to clear room on the 40-man roster for Preston Guilmet. Marson is out indefinitely with ongoing shoulder issues.

Lou Marson (shoulder) admitted Monday that there is no timetable for his return to the Indians' active roster. Marson has begun throwing but is not yet performing any other baseball activities due to lingering soreness in his shoulder and neck. "It's definitely frustrating," the catcher told MLB.com. "I know what it is and kind of what I have to do. Hopefully, I can get on the field soon."
