Chisenhall (fractured right index finger) was placed on the 10-day IL, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was revealed just hours before the first game of the season that Chisenhall's injury was much worse than anticipated. Melky Cabrera, who is starting in right field Thursday, and Pablo Reyes figure to get the bulk of the playing time while Chisenhall is out. This also resulted in J.B. Shuck making the team, so he could get a start every now and then.

Chisenhall has been diagnosed with a broken hand and will miss 4-to-6 weeks, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
This explains why he wasn't able to get ready for Opening Day, which was the hope as recently as Tuesday. Melky Cabrera, who is starting in right field Thursday, and Pablo Reyes figure to get the bulk of the playing time while Chisenhall is out.

Chisenhall (hand) is not in the Opening Day lineup against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
He was optimistic he might be able to get back in time for Opening Day, but Melky Cabrera will instead get the start in right field, batting seventh. The Pirates have an off day Friday, so perhaps after the extra two days of rest he will be ready to return this weekend.

The Pirates are optimistic Chisenhall (hand) will be ready for Thursday's season opener against the Reds, Nubyjas Wilborn of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chisenhall is still being treated and evaluated after being struck in the right hand by a pitch in Monday's spring game. He's scheduled to travel with the Pirates to Cincinnati before the team makes a decision regarding his status for the start of the season. If Chisenhall is forced to open the year of the IL, J.B. Shuck would break camp as a reserve outfielder while Melky Cabrera and Pablo Reyes would likely split time in right field.

Chisenhall (hand) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's exhibition game against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Chisenhall's absence doesn't come as much of a surprise after he was pulled from Monday's spring game after being struck in the right hand by a pitch. The Pirates haven't indicated that Chisenhall suffered any structural damage to his hand, so the presumption is that he's just managing soreness at this point. The injury nonetheless puts his status in question for Thursday's regular-season opener in Cincinnati.

Chisenhall (leg) played five innings in right field Thursday and went hitless in two at-bats.
EDGE Analysis
He's 3-for-9 in Grapefruit League action as he prepares to play right field with Gregory Polanco (shoulder) out. Given Chisenhall's history of injury and Polanco's progress from September surgery, there's a good chance that he won't see as much playing time as envisioned when he signed with Pittsburgh. The lefty hit only one homer in 84 at-bats for Cleveland last year, but combined for 20 home runs in 621 at-bats the prior two seasons.

Chisenhall (leg) is in the lineup for Thursday's spring game against the Orioles, according to Adam Berry of MLB.com.
EDGE Analysis
Chisenhall was out the last few days due to some tightness in his leg, but he is ready to get back to action for the Pirates. Chisenhall will hit seventh and man right field, which is a sign the Pirates aren't concerned he will suffer a setback while patrolling the outfield.

Chisenhall has progressed as expected since exiting Saturday's exhibition game against the Yankees with leg tightness, John Perrotto of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Chisenhall has yet to rejoin the Pirates' Grapefruit League lineup and remains out again Wednesday, he's been cleared to rejoin baseball activities, per Adam Berry of MLB.com. That news signals that Chisenhall's return to spring action might be imminent, or at the very least that he's at minimal risk of not being ready to go by Opening Day.

Chisenhall (leg) isn't listed in the Pittsburgh lineup for Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against Baltimore.
EDGE Analysis
Chisenhall experienced some leg tightness during his appearance in Saturday's exhibition against the Yankees. The injury isn't viewed as anything especially serious, so the expectation is that Chisenhall will draw back into the lineup after taking a few days off to rest. The 30-year-old is positioned to open the season as the Pirates' primary option in right field, though it's likely he'll be deployed as part of a platoon at the position.
