Kendrick will serve as the Rockies' Opening Day starter April 6 against the Brewers, MLB.com reports. With Jorge De La Rosa battling a groin injury and potentially on track to miss his first turn in the rotation, Kendrick will kick off the 2015 season for the Rockies on the heels of a strong spring training. The right-hander stymied the Diamondbacks during Sunday's Cactus League outing (two hits, one walk, and no runs allowed over four innings), and has posted a 2.45 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in his 11 innings. The Rockies believe that Kendrick's groundball tendencies will enable him to thrive at Coors Field, but his lack of strikeouts and dependence on a low BABIP to find success won't make him an appealing target in fantasy drafts.

Kendrick had a solid outing for the Rockies' split-squad team Tuesday against the Mariners, yielding no runs over two innings while scattering two hits and striking out three batters. Perhaps more notable than the strikeouts were the three groundball outs Kendrick generated, production that will need to be maintained in order for the right-hander to thrive at Coors Field. Kendrick got off to a rough start to the spring in his Cactus League debut last week, but the Rockies should be encouraged by his swift rebound Tuesday. With the club seemingly content to have stud prospects Eddie Butler and Jon Gray open the season on the farm, Kendrick figures to have a line on a rotation spot.

Kendrick agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Rockies on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports. The right-hander can also earn an additional $500,000 if he reaches 190 innings, a number he surpassed for the first time in 2014. Kendrick hasn't turned in an xFIP under 4.00 in any of his eight major league seasons, and there's very little to suggest a skills breakout could be coming in his age-30 campaign. While he does own a slightly above-average 46.1% groundball rate for his career, Kendrick will make for an unappealing option even in NL-only leagues.

Kendrick filed for free agency on Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Kendrick went 10-13 with a 4.61 ERA and a 121:57 K:BB ratio in 199 innings for the Phillies this season. The Phillies are not expected to make a push to re-sign him.

Kendrick picked up his 10th win of the season Wednesday versus the Marlins, giving up one run on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts over seven innings. Kendrick ends his season on a high note with a 2.78 ERA in September and allowing one run or fewer in three of his final five starts. Overall, the right-hander owns a 4.61 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 121:57 K:BB ratio on the year.

Kendrick (9-13) took the loss Thursday in San Diego, allowing six hits, five walks and three runs in five innings. He struck out two. While Kendrick turns in a solid start here and there, poor outings like this are all too common. His stats this year are pretty much in line with his career numbers, which are those of a subpar pitcher. And yet the Phillies have been loyally rolling him out there since 2007.

Kendrick picked up his ninth win of the season Saturday over the Marlins. He allowed one run on seven hits over 6.1 innings. Kendrick struck out six and walked one in what was probably his last start for the Phillies in Citizens Bank Park. He is a free agent after this season, and his next two starts will come on the road. He has won four of his last five starts.

Kendrick struggled in a losing effort Monday, allowing five runs in seven innings against the Pirates. Kendrick has done a good job giving the Phillies length in his starts, but the results haven't been perfect. The righty has allowed at least four runs in five of his last six starts. Kendrick will try to limit the damage against him this weekend in a start against the Marlins.

Kendrick shut out the Braves on Tuesday, tossing seven innings of three-hit ball. He also walked two and fanned four in the win. Sometimes having trouble finding the zone can work to a pitcher's benefit, as was the case with Kendrick in this one as he managed less than half of his pitches (55-of-101) for strikes, while only getting ahead of batters with 12-of-26 first-pitch strikes. Nonetheless, he got the job done and now owns an 8-11 record with a 4.77 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through 28 starts (173.2 innings) this season.

Kendrick struck out four and walked one while giving up four runs on seven hits over six innings a winning effort Wednesday. The victory improved Kendrick's record to 7-11 on the season, but he remains a very risky option for streaming purposes as he's been one of the least valuable starting pitchers in the league over the past calendar year. Kendrick will make his next start on the road Tuesday against the Braves.
