Medlen (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Joel Goldberg of Fox Sports Kansas City reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Royals placed two members of their starting staff on the disabled list Thursday with both Medlen and Chris Young (forearm) landing there. Medlen labored through his last two outings, allowing 10 earned runs in just 4.0 combined innings of work. It was later discovered that Medlen is dealing with inflammation in his right rotator cuff. The Royals added a pair of arms in Scott Alexander and Peter Moylan to take Medlen and Young's spots on the roster.

Medlen is dealing with a sore shoulder and may not make his scheduled start Sunday, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports.
EDGE Analysis
More will be known about Medlen's status after he is examined by doctors Thursday. If Medlen is unable to take the mound Sunday, manager Ned Yost said either Danny Duffy or Brian Flynn would make a spot start in his place.

Medlen lasted just two innings and allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in a no-decision Tuesday against the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Medlen has lasted just two innings in each of his past two starts and has seen his ERA climb from 4.87 to a not-so-lucky 7.77. He has lasted fewer than four innings in three of his six starts this year and has just one quality start. Medlen has simply had nothing working in 2016 thus far, and with Tuesday's disaster, he has now issued more walks (20) than he has strikeouts (18), making it hard to see any sort of light at the end of this tunnel.

Medlen gave up nine runs -- six earned -- on six hits over two innings in a start against the Nats on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Not surprisingly, he took the loss, dropping his season record to 1-3 in the process. Medlen has struggled with his control throughout his first five appearances this season, and he now sits with 17 walks in 22.1 innings over five starts. Even with his control woes, Medlen has held his own in three of his first five starts this season, likely keeping him in the mix as a starter in the coming weeks. He'll face the Yankees on the road in his next turn Tuesday, before a second start May 15 against Atlanta.

Medlen (1-2) allowed one run on one hit and five walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings to take the loss Friday at the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Medlen was a tough luck loser, as he only allowed a solo homer in the sixth inning, but the offense was unable to provide any run support. Despite his inflated 4.87 ERA, he's now allowed two or fewer earned runs in three of his four starts. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Nationals.

Medlen (1-1) was roughed up Saturday, giving up seven runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings in a loss against the Orioles. He also struck out two and walked three.
EDGE Analysis
Thanks to a caught stealing, Medlen faced just three batters in the first, but he tossed up a homer to Chris Davis to start the second, and it was all down hill from there. Medlen has allowed at least six runs in three of his last nine regular season outings dating back to last September. He will try to erase this from his memory with his next start, which is scheduled for Friday at Seattle.

Medlen allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on two hits and four walks while striking out four over 6.1 innings, but received no decision Sunday at the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Medlen was staked to a two-run lead, but gave up runs in the fourth and seventh innings, which took away his chance to pick up the victory. In his two starts so far, he's only allowed three earned runs while striking out 11 over 11.1 innings. He'll make his next start Saturday against the Orioles.

Medlen picked up the win Tuesday against Houston as he held the Astros to two runs on six hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Medlen was nasty (14 swinging strikes) and wild (eight first-pitch strikes to 22 batters). He threw just 53 strikes in 97 pitches but induced six ground ball outs. It was a roller coaster ride, but there's a lot to like with Medlen, especially with the support -- defensive, offensive, and from the bullpen -- he can expect to receive from Kansas City.

Medlen will break camp as one of the Royals' five starting pitchers, but he will be skipped the first time through the rotation, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports.
EDGE Analysis
Medlen earned a spot in the Royals' rotation this spring, but a slew of off days during the season's first week will allow the Royals to go with just four starters to begin with, and give Medlen more time to build up his stamina. Medlen's 2016 debut is tentatively set for April 14 against the Astros.

Medlen is expected to win one of the final two spots in the Kansas City rotation along with Chris Young, the Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Medlen has a 4.00 ERA this spring, but an impressive nine strikeouts and one walk in nine innings. Medlen had just a 6.1 K/9 last year in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, so the increased strikeouts could be a positive sign.
