Cubs designated OF Julio Borbon for assignment. Cubs skipper Dale Sveum wasn't happy with a baserunning mistake that Borbon made in the ninth inning of Friday's loss to the Dodgers, going as far as to say it changed the ballgame. That isn't the sole reason for his dismissal though, as he was hitting a paltry .200/.282/.276 with three RBI on the season.

Julio Borbon had walk-off pinch-hit single in a 6-5 win over the Reds in 14 innings on Thursday. After sitting on the bench for around five hours, Borbon punched a two-out single through the left side to bring in Starlin Castro to end it. It was just his second RBI since being acquired claimed off waivers from the Rangers back in April. His speed is useful, but the Cubs will have to deal an outfielder for him to be fantasy relevant again.

Julio Borbon went 2-for-5 and hit a two-run homer in the Cubs' victory Monday. It seems like a given that the Cubs will eventually trade an outfielder, whether it's Alfonso Soriano or David DeJesus. Ideally, Brett Jackson would come up and fill a starting spot when it happens, but if he's still not ready, Borbon could get an extended look. With his speed, he'd have considerable fantasy value if it happens.

Julio Borbon has stolen three bases since he joined the Cubs last month. Borbon hasn't been playing enough to warrant an update over the past month (he's logged more than two at-bats in a game just twice since the Cubs claimed him off waivers from the Rangers on April 19). If he can secure some playing time over the summer, Borbon will be useful in NL-only formats in the batting average and steals departments. Chicago has displayed no willingness to exercise their atrophying 27-year-old outfielder, however.

Cubs claimed OF Julio Borbon off waivers from the Rangers. The Rangers were unable to find a trade partner to unload Borbon, but plenty of teams surely put in a waiver claim for him, and the Cubs got him. He'll back up David DeJesus in center field for now but is a candidate for increased playing time down the road with a number of the Cubs' outfielders likely to be on the trade block.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Julio Borbon will be placed on waivers after the Rangers were unable to find a trade partner. Borbon drew plenty of interest, but the Rangers were unable to find the right fit and will now likely lose him for nothing. The Astros have been mentioned as a possibility and it would be surprising if they didn't take a chance on him. We should learn more about his status soon.

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com hears the Rangers' optimism has faded to find a trade partner for Julio Borbon. Borbon was designated for assignment last week, but the Rangers haven't found a trade partner who is willing to clear a spot on their roster. He's now expected to be claimed off waivers instead. For what it's worth, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports hears that the Orioles will not make a trade for Borbon. Teams like the Astros, Mets, and Twins have been mentioned as possible fits.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rangers are expecting to trade outfielder Julio Borbon. It's not a surprise, as Borbon has drawn plenty of interested since he was designated for assignment last week. The Orioles, Mets, and Astros are among the rumored suitors.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Orioles have interest in Julio Borbon but "have found the asking price to be high." Borbon was designated for assignment last week and is expected to be traded over the next few days. He would probably be an upgrade over Nate McLouth in left field, though the O's surely wouldn't just hand him a starting job. The speedy outfielder has also drawn interest from the Twins.

According to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN, the Twins are "kicking the tires on" outfielder Julio Borbon. Borbon was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Tuesday to clear a roster spot for fifth starter Nick Tepesch. Wolfson suspects that the Twins will attempt to claim the 27-year-old once he clears waivers rather than rushing into a trade. Borbon is a .283/.324/.358 career hitter in the big leagues but possesses decent wheels.
