Zimmermann (0-2) surrendered five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out one over three innings and took the loss Sunday against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
It was a rough day at the office for Zimmermann in the series finale, giving up two runs in the first inning followed by one in the second and two more in the third. The 32-year-old has looked shaky in back-to-back outings, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits and three walks over 7.1 frames.

Zimmermann (0-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Indians, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks across 4.1 innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Zimmermann just didn't have it in this game. He allowed three home runs - solo shots to Leonys Martin and Roberto Perez as well as a two-run blast from Brad Miller. The right-hander had permitted just one earned run in his first two 2019 starts, covering 13.2 innings. He still has a 2.50 ERA and 0.78 WHIP for the season along with a 14:3 K:BB and lines up to face the Twins on the road Sunday.

Zimmermann gave up one earned run over 6.2 innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six as the Tigers won 3-1.
EDGE Analysis
Zimmermann gave up just a second-inning run on a Clint Frazier sacrifice fly and only permitted five singles and a double over his 94 pitches. The 32-year-old has has been a pleasant surprise in his first two starts this season, and now holds a gaudy 0.66 ERA with a 10:1 K:BB. His next scheduled start is on Tuesday at home versus the Indians.

Zimmermann pitched seven scoreless innings but didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's 10-inning win over the Blue Jays. He allowed just one hit and struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Zimmermann was locked in for the season opener, but so was his counterpart Marcus Stroman, who also tossed seven scoreless innings. The Tigers eventually grabbed the win on a home run in the 10th inning, and Zimmermann had to settle for a great stat line but no decision. The 32-year-old had a 4.52 ERA in 2018, which was his best mark in three seasons with the Tigers, so he'll need a few more good outings to really get the attention of fantasy owners.

The Tigers announced Sunday that Zimmermann will be the team's Opening Day starter, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Zimmermann had an up-and-down spring, but his 4.52 ERA last year was his best since 2015, and manager Ron Gardenhire decided to give the veteran the honor of taking the ball in the Tigers' season opener. Zimmermann will square off against the Blue Jays, who he threw seven innings of one-run ball and picked up the win against the lone time he faced them in 2018.

Zimmermann allowed five runs on five hits over 4.1 innings of work in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. He walked two and struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
After a nice start to the spring, Monday's clunker pushed Zimmermann's Grapefruit League ERA to 4.73. For a pitcher who hasn't posted an ERA below 4.52 in three seasons in Detroit, expectations should definitely be limited heading into 2019. Zimmermann should have a fairly strong hold on a rotation spot with the Tigers, but he's far from an exciting fantasy option.

Zimmermann allowed one run on three hits over three innings to pick up the win in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Braves. He walked one and struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Zimmermann followed up a strong spring debut on Monday with another good outing, and he now has a 1.80 ERA and eight strikeouts through his first five Grapefruit League innings. The 32-year-old had an awful 2017 and a mediocre 2018, so it will take some sustained success to regain fantasy owners' trust, but this is a good start nonetheless.

Zimmermann struck out four over two perfect innings Monday in the Tigers' 12-7 exhibition loss to the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Zimmermann made a strong early claim for the Opening Day starting assignment with a stellar outing in his Grapefruit League debut. According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, three of Zimmermann's strikeouts came via his slider, though the right-hander was pleased with how he commanded all four of his pitches. While it was an encouraging start to 2019 for Zimmermann, he shouldn't be considered as anything more than a late-round dart throw in fantasy drafts after posting ERAs above 4.50 and WHIPs above 1.25 in each of his first three seasons in Detroit.

Zimmermann (core) has resumed throwing, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It sounds like Zimmermann is back to full health after undergoing core muscle repair surgery back in October. The right-hander finished the 2018 campaign with a lackluster 4.52 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 111:26 K:BB across 25 starts (131.1 innings). It's worth noting that the veteran won't need a nerve block injection for the first time in a few years.

Zimmermann underwent successful core muscle repair surgery Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
This comes as a bit of a surprise, as there had been no mention of any injury prior to the procedure. Dr. William Meyers performed the surgery in Philadelphia, noting afterwards that Zimmermann should be ready for spring training. The veteran right-hander turned in a 4.52 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 111:26 K:BB across 25 starts (131.1 innings) for the Tigers in 2018.
