Walden (shoulder) didn't pitch in Saturday's Grapefruit League loss to the Nationals, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Walden continues to be bothered by soreness near his throwing shoulder, which has prevented him from pitching since Monday. The Cardinals wanted Walden to pitch in games on consecutive days during spring training before heading into the regular season, but with only five contests left on the schedule, the right-hander may come into Opening Day less than 100 percent healthy.

Walden did not throw as scheduled Friday due to a "knot in his lat," MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Further details regarding Walden's status were not reported, but manager Mike Matheny said there is some concern about the injury, which puts Walden's status for Opening Day into question.

Walden has pitched well this spring, throwing five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit, one walk, and one hit batter in the process while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Walden hasn't pitched in a regular season game since last April after dealing with reoccurring shoulder problems all year. Walden was looking like a top fantasy setup man last year before going down but it's unlikely even if he stays healthy that he'll take on that role this year as both Kevin Siegrist and Seung-Hwan Oh are in position to handle setup duties heading into the season.

Walden is expected to be on the same program as all of the Cardinals' other pitchers this spring, yet there is still some uncertainty about whether his shoulder can hold up for a full season, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Walden missed the final five months of last season due to rotator cuff and labrum damage. He's still expected to fill a set-up role, but the Cardinals' signing of Jonathan Broxton and Seung Hwan Oh suggests that the team isn't sure how Walden will hold up.

Walden (biceps) is hoping to throw off the mound by the end of the week the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Walden is still hoping to make it back before the end of the regular season but he'll need everything to well the rest of the way in his recovery for that to happen.

Walden (biceps) will throw his first bullpen session Monday, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports. Walden is expected to remain out of commission until after the All-Star break, but his first scheduled bullpen session is a step in the right direction. He'll likely throw several next week before heading out on a rehab assignment in mid-to-late July.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny confirmed Saturday that Walden (biceps) will remain out through the All-Star break, MLB.com reports. Although his return isn't imminent, Walden has been throwing off a mound and is scheduled to throw three bullpen sessions next week, so his rehab is progressing steadily. He'll probably share setup duties with Kevin Siegrist upon his return.

Walden (biceps) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Tuesday. The Cardinals needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster with Marcus Hatley coming up from Triple-A, so they made the decision to move Walden, who began throwing a few weeks ago as he works back from a biceps strain.

Walden (biceps) began throwing earlier this week, MLB.com reports. After a shutdown period that lasted almost six weeks, Walden recently picked up a baseball again, clearing the first major hurdle in his recovery from a right shoulder strain. There is no timetable for him to return to elevated ground, but Walden said he's still aiming to return before the All-Star break.

Walden (biceps) is hoping to resume playing catch in the near future, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Walden isn't expected to return to the Cardinals until late June or early July after suffering a torn muscle in his right shoulder that required a trip to the DL. It sounds like he's been progressing as expected thus far, and he was able to test out the strength of his shoulder Saturday by throwing a weighted ball into a trampoline. A return to playing catch would represent another positive step.
