Lannan was reassigned to the Rockies' minor-league camp Sunday. Lannan was a long shot to claim a rotation spot with the Rockies out of spring training, and didn't see his odds of claiming a starting role improve much even after the release of Jhoulys Chacin. He'll more than likely work in a depth capacity at Triple-A Albuquerque to begin the season, but could be called upon if a spot starter or swingman is needed by the big club.

Lannan signed a minor league contract with the Rockies, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Lannan made 25-plus starts in four straight seasons while with the Nationals from 2008-2011, but he's made just 25 appearances (20 starts) at the major league level in the past three years. The lefty spent some time in the Mets' bullpen early in 2015 and went on to post a 6.75 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in 14 appearances (12 starts) between High-A St. Lucie and Triple-A Las Vegas, but don't put it past the Rockies to give him a few starts in 2015.

John Lannan has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas. Lannan had the option to elect free agency, but he has decided to remain in the Mets organization for now. The lefty had a 15.75 ERA in five relief appearances.

Mets sent LHP John Lannan outright to Triple-A Las Vegas. Lannan's move to the bullpen didn't go well, as he posted a 15.75 ERA over five relief appearances. He has the option to elect free agency rather than accept the minor league assignment. The Mets will try Daisuke Matsuzaka as a long reliever instead.

Mets purchased the contract of LHP John Lannan from Triple-A Las Vegas. With that, Lannan has earned a spot on the Opening Day roster. While he has pitched almost exclusively as a starter during his career, he will function as a second left-hander out of New York's bullpen.

John Lannan gave up five runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Marlins. Lannan walked four and struck out just one in his first rough outing of the spring. It was starting to look like the Mets' plan was to make Daisuke Matsuzaka their fifth starter and carry Lannan as a reliever, though that was prior to Jon Niese's setback. Now there might be room for both in the rotation. Lannan doesn't look like much of an option in NL-only leagues, though.

John Lannan allowed two unearned runs in four innings and struck out five in a loss to the Cardinals on Wednesday. It sounds like the Mets want one of the veterans as their fifth starter, not Jenrry Mejia. Lannan is likely a bit behind Daisuke Matsuzaka in the race, but he helped his cause today; the only runs came after a David Wright error. What does hurt Lannan is that he's a candidate for the bullpen if he's not in the rotation, while Matsuzaka is strictly a starter.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that John Lannan and Daisuke Matsuzaka were currently the frontrunners to occupy the fifth and final spot in the Mets Opening Day rotation. The 29-year-old southpaw made 14 starts for the Phillies in 2013, posting an underwhelming 5.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 38/27 K/BB ratio over 74 1/3 innings. Even if he does manage to win the spot over Matsuzaka, his fantasy value would be minimal outside of NL-only formats.

John Lannan will receive a $1.5 million salary if he makes the Mets. Lannan could earn an additional $2 million if he reaches certain benchmarks in innings pitched and games started. The 29-year-old can opt out of the deal in mid-June if he's not in the majors. He's set to compete for the fifth starter job in the spring.

Mets signed LHP John Lannan to a minor league contract. The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Lannan, 29, started 14 games for the Phillies last season, going 3-6 with a 5.33 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. ESPN New York's Adam Rubin said Lannan will compete for the fifth starter role with the team during spring.
